Love this ! I backpacked all over from Hokkaido to Kyushu for 3 month in 2013. Spent loads of time in Tokyo definately more than a month. I miss it i want to move there so badly. I was happier and felt more accepted there. I totally experienced reverse culture shock and wish USA had more common sense and awareness of people and how to treat people.

Thank you for sharing your experience, hope you can visit again. What are the things you miss about Tokyo?
@SkuldXHimura3 жыл бұрын
@@rodyinjapan how efficient and easy it is to get around by train or walking. I live in San Francisco Bay area, to get a lot of places you have to drive, the bart and buses do not go everywhere. I miss how i could feel like im in the future, how advance the city is, walk a block over and it looks like 2000 years ago with a beautiful shrine, keeping the old alongside the new. I miss the delicious street food! I miss the mindful polite people. For some reason being around the people always made me smile and laugh. I miss karaoke!😭 no one does karaoke like the Japanese do, not here in the USA. Only karaoke is on a xbox/playstation or some bars that have open mic talent sometimes have karaoke nights. Not the same not a huge fun experience like in Japan. Many americans are nervous to sign in front of others. I miss the cool street performers id see! Sometimes bands, you cant do that in USA either the police will kick you and you equipment out unless you have a permit. I also saw someone do a type of juggling fire performance in Tokyo, that was cool. I miss feeling the safety and security. I never had a bad experience and i was mostly walking alone even at night. I felt safe. I was amazed at how calm i felt. I do not feel safe in USA, cannot risk walking at night ever. I miss going to Ikebukuro and Shibuya crossing, my favorite places to hang out. I miss the view of the bay and rainbow bridge by the beach. I miss Tokyo Tower. I miss the festivals, especially the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, when i was there it only lasted 1hour than it was thunderstorm and rain and lighting, it shut down early and was crowded. But the random people i met that night became life long friends we laughed all wet and a group of us had to take shelter under a garage. We shared stories and laughter for hours until the storm ended. Best experiences in my life. I want to return so badly. My values are similar so i fit in better in Tokyo, in Japan. In USA the values accepted are different, i just dont belong and it is a struggle always here. Tokyos vibes and beauty opened my mind.
@SkuldXHimura3 жыл бұрын
In Tokyo i feel like you will never be bored! Theres always something new and many different activities and different groups. Even walking the streets is fun. Always something to do! I miss that. i also miss the onsens and bath houses in Japan, theres nothing like that in USA. People dont think of it as necessary or proper. To have a communal bath is not normal in USA modern culture, some people have personal 'hot tubs' but its not the same thing. I think the USA could learn a lot and needs to such as mindfulness. In USA Children and even adults do not get up on trains or buses for elderly, bikes are stolen everyday even if they are chained down repainted and sold at flea markets, if you drop your wallet you 95% of the time will probably never see it again, its not safe to walk at night alone, children can never be left alone not even in the daytime, people are loud on trains and buses, lots of crime and theft, no mindfulness, and theres no respect from the young to older also no human respect to strangers if you bump into someone accidently or you see something you shouldnt an argument or violence can happen. All these things would be better if USA was a bit more mindful, human, compassionate, polite, and respectful. I respect those differences i noticed in Japan. The odds are different in Japan which makes it a safer and more stable environment.

japanese culture is superior. cleaner, better designed, safer. even their cheap neighborhoods are nice. they are better at almost everything than the rest of the world.

Hirai/Edogawa is not for weebs, that's hood Japan - only those who about that life and trust me, their world and your Western world is on different levels of defining safe and clean and quality of life...

Haha I don’t know what you mean sir? Are you from philly? Or Chicago? 😂

@@rodyinjapan there are comments here stating how "clean and safe" that area is but do not realize places like Edogawa, Hirai or Chiba in general are not the type of Japanese culture they see at tourist spots. I'm from inner-city Chicago so someone like me can move there and adapt to the street culture but that area isn't for everybody.

@@eddunn3021 it’s no problem for foreigners to live in the most affordable cities in Tokyo. I do, bought a condo last year. They’re all really safe. It’s just the language barrier is a bit higher, so learning some survival Japanese goes a long way.

Chicago & philly dudes are some of toughest dudes I met they don’t play. They can survive anywhere.
