I was there many a year ago. I stayed at this wonderful place, Nikko Guesthouse Sumica. I was only supposed to spend one day but found out about the Hanamatsuri up at Lake Chuzenji. Well, one day turned into a few more. Thanks again for sharing these videos. They always bring back joyful memories.

I remember going Japan in last Nov and Nikko was in my list of places to go as I wanted to see the koyo in Nikko, it was quite an adventure as I encountered the first november snow in Tokyo in 54 years, the trains stopped working and i was stranded in a very small town, not knowing a single Japanese word it took me half a day to go to Nikko, it was so cold and most of the attractions were closing soon, Toshogu shrine was also covered as part of the renovation, i only managed to go to Shinkyo Bridge. I hope I can go back to Nikko again to really see this beautiful place.

great videos team - keep them coming. Can the Nikko Exploring video (all sights detailed) be achieved in one day from Tokyo? Travelling with the JR Pass Shinkansen in mind.
@japanguide7 жыл бұрын
+petersmart19 if you leave early, yes. Keep in mind that the buses around Nikko and Okunikko are not covered by the JR pass. For these it might be worthwhile to buy a one day pass once you arrive at Nikko. Here's a link to more info on accessing the area: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3805.html

Here’s my question: Is their a local bus that can take me throughout the park? Do I need a car to get around to see the red bridge, waterfall, mountain and temples?
@japanguide4 жыл бұрын
Yes there are two bus lines that connect most of the shrines and temples in Nikko. We have everything you need regarding orientation and access in Nikko on our dedicated page: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3805.html

I plan on going to Nikko this october on 27th to enjoy beautiful Koyo, am i making the right choice to go for Koyo in Nikko on that date? Also for a one day trip what time should i go back so i dont miss the last bus?
@japanguide7 жыл бұрын
Late October should be alright in theory, however this year it seems koyo has been a bit early so the colors might be past peak. As for which bus to take, it really depends where you are travelling back to. Here's a lot more info about Nikko including a full description of how to access it: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3805.html#section_access

Amazing videos, one better than the one before, great job. When was this video filmed? I am going in mid-October, and want to see some fall leaves, maybe I have to head up north for that.
@japanguide7 жыл бұрын
This was filming in May. In mid-October the colors in Nikko, especially Okunikko are usually not bad. Here is a reference guide for when colors can be seen across Japan: www.japan-guide.com/e/e2014_when.html

tq for the awesome video. it seems less tourist in nikko. is it safe for female solo traveller to go there? I will be in tokyo in 11,12,13 of november, is nikko in the peak of its autumn? I want to see beatiful red maple trees. and then is it enough to spent a day in nikko and rushing back to tokyo in the afternoon? I'm sorry for bringing you a lot of questions here, because I want to see the best fall scenery in japan in early november 😊
@japanguide7 жыл бұрын
Mid November should be good timing for seeing the fall colors in Nikko. Also, it is doable to make a day trip from Tokyo to Nikko, but of course taking 2 days would mean you don't have to rush. You may find the Tobu Nikko Free Pass to be worthwhile depending on where you hope to go. Here is some more info about the autumn colors in Japan: www.japan-guide.com/e/e2014_when.html, and also more info about the Tobu Nikko Free Pass: www.japan-guide.com/e/e2358_002.html. Have a good trip!

Nikko and Oku-Nikko are situated from 200m to 1600m above the sea level. Consequently, the peak of the autumn colors spans more than a month. In this year, one of the forecasts says Senjogahara as early as late September, Yudaki mid- to late October, and central Nikko in November. This site gives the current situations for Oku-Nikko, Kirifuri Kogen and World Heritage areas. nikko.4-seasons.jp/special/kouyou2017/

JG. After visiting tosho-gu, to reach the board walk the option is by bus only? Then does the boardwalk finish at a walking distance to the falls? I'm wondering if I could include Ryuzu falls, walk th boardwalk and finish at yodaki? What would be the time for this journey? Thanks!
@japanguide7 жыл бұрын
Buses are the best way by public transportation to reach the Okunikko region, otherwise car or taxi are the other options. There are trails which connect Ryuzu falls to the boardwalk and eventually lead all the way to Yudaki. It would probably take about 2.5 to 4 hours to complete the whole route depending on your walking pace. Hope this helps! Here's much more info on the area: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3813.html

japan-guide.com thanks for the quick reply! Heading there tomorrow morning and have 2 nights staying in nikko. Main mission is to achieve the above and also some hiking around lake chezenji to get some nice views of mount nantai etc. It's just trying to put an itinerary together for each day and what is available pass wise for the local region and how long everything takes! Cheers.
@japanguide7 жыл бұрын
Have a great time! By the way, the timelapse at the end of the video of Lake Chuzenji with Nantai in the background was taken from the lookout deck on just below the summit of Hangetsuyama. There are hourly buses between Chuzenjiko Onsen and Hangetsuyama Parking Lot if you don't have a car. The hike from the parking lot is only about 20-40 minutes (www.japan-guide.com/e/e3815.html). Have a good trip.

I want roasted chestnuts , where I will get it in Japan can you help me
@japanguide6 жыл бұрын
Especially during autumn, it's quite common to see roasted chestnuts being sold on the streets with heavy foot traffic. However, pretty much any time of the year they easy to find. A few good place to look would be in street markets like Ameyoko-cho near Ueno Station.
