I can speak both Japanese and English fluently. You guys are brilliant in bringing Ken Watanabe’s advice on what words Yakuza, reporters, and policemen used in the 90’s. And when actors use English or Japanese. It's really real that the time. Also back in the day, Japanese people could die for their job… Somehow we have strong loyalty in our job or to our boss back in the day. This show expresses the essence of the Japanese people really well.

This show is very immersive. Great to hear about all the work that went on behind the scenes to make that happen.

I absolutely LOVE this show but after watching the second season I feel like the conclusion was absolutely perfect and it felt like the perfect series finale, the characters archs are complete, and a third season would be redundant and would probably only serve to undermine its own legacy. I'd love to see a prequel chronicling Ishida's rise to power (Godfather part II style).

Show deserves way more promotion and recognition. The acting is superior. The dialogs are what you expect and better from an organized crime tv show. 📺

I think it's been confirmed by Jake Adelstein by Jake Adelstein that there won't be a season three (which I'm okay with as the season two finale felt like the perfect series finale). Let's petition for Max to make an Ishida prequel series!

Indeed an amazing show, so accurate about the whole Tokyo atmosphere of the 90s (visited Japan & Tokyo 3 times during these years), and the story telling is just amazing. Kuddos to the cast and crew for this amazing show, which is underrated imo.

HBO/Max most underrated show next to Warrior and Banshee is Tokyo Vice, finished season two a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely brilliant show! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cool show and such an amazing country. I was so close to visiting it at one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity. That would've been a real dream come true to visit this place.

There are no words to describe how thrilled I was hearing every word of this conversation! I am filled with gratitude. It was also captivating to hear about the people behind-the-scenes being honored. I plan to listen again and type up what everyone said (which I will add here later), so when I watch the series for the third or fourth time, I will view it with those words in mind!

HBO Max has done a terrible job in promoting an excellent show. I just happen to find it on Max by accident. I am a subscriber for the past 2 years.

Ansel and Rachel: Eh? I dunno. I didn’t find learning Japanese to be so difficult. I determined from the beginning that I was going to become fluent in Japanese. Period. It does require being purposeful in learning the language… I call it “eat, sleep and shit Japanese” and at the end of the day you “sell” a part of your soul to Japan in exchange for gaining an understanding of the culture… needed because the language and culture is the opposite of English and American culture. Japanese is a very contextual language and a culture that works on many unspoken, mutually understood rules. When you’ve done it, you’ll find yourself unconsciously bowing when shaking hands or when talking on the phone. Spending time living in Japan, going to a Japanese language school is a great route, but basically you need to immerse yourself in the language as much as possible. If you’re living in Japan, seek out Japanese friends and try not to heavily hangout with foreigners. Like I said… be purposeful. Ken Watanabe’s interpreter: Nice job! That’s seriously hard work and a separate skill of its own. Having done some of it myself, I truly appreciate just how much work it takes. Tokyo Vice was a fucking awesome show and embodied the vision I had for one type of show that offered an authentic glimpse of Japan and Japanese culture back when the Chinese period movies Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers came out. I very much hope to see more shows like this regularly going forward.

Loved both seasons of Tokyo Vice and it's in my all time top five next to The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Rome and Banshee. Jake Adelstein has recently confirmed on Twitter/X that season two is the last season but I'm hoping HBO/Max will develop an Ishida prequel series chronicling his rise to power in the Chihara Kai, that would be epic! J.T Rogers and team please make it happen so we can expand upon the Tokyo Vice universe! 😁

The only reason I like it is because it's set in Tokyo, but the acting is actually really bad and Jake is the least interesting character lol
