Hey! Another fabulous video as always. With all the vintage clothing stores you visit, I’m really curious about how these companies source their product. You’ve mentioned several times in your conversations with the shop keepers that most of the people just travel to America buy as much as they can and then return home. But recently with the surge in thrift prices it has become unaffordable for them. I am a compulsive thrift shopper. I can tell by some of your videos a little bit what they’re looking for. Could you make recommendations on what they love the most? I remember in one of your previous videos you went to a store where they specialized in vintage Orvis clothing. Also, I know there are stores that specialize in brands like Ralph Lauren. What sizes are the most popular? For example, I imagine they don’t have much need for 2XL - 3XL. Do you have a personal favorite shop or could you suggest? Or a vintage clothing chain that’s always in need of bulk merch. Or any individual stores that you feel would interested in buying product from independent vendors like me? Hope to visit Japan in the next year or two. I’ll Probably just pay the extra baggage fee and bring an extra suitcase full of vintage gear. I’m sure that would be cheaper than shipping costs. This might be an interesting topic to make an entire video on or at least touch on in some capacity in a future video. Speaking of Paulo that sounds like it would be a topic of one of his videos. “A day in the life of a Japanese thrift store worker.” Thanks again!
@RalphSam4 сағат бұрын
Wow, thanks for taking the time to write out such a well thought-out comment. Great questions! To answer some of them: In our experience, independent shops usually curate their inventory to target specific niches. One specialty shop might be streetwear-focused from the 80s and 90s, another all 1960s womenswear, another vintage americana from the 1950s-1970s. Chain shops like Kinji, Chicago, Flamingo carry a broad array of styles (spanning decades) and most probably source their stuff from Japanese wholesalers. I would focus on finding the smaller shops on instagram, try to start a conversation with them, and try to see how you can build a relationship with them that leads to them sourcing from you. Also, Japanese sizing is very very small compared to the west. Hope this helps in some way. 😊
