Bought my very first mechanical watch at the GS Boutique Ginza this week. SLGA009 White Burch. Originally I wanted to have the SBGA443 - Sakura but it was sold out everywhere in Ginza. I took the train a few minutes to Yokohama because I wanted to see this watch so badly and I actually found the Sakura in Yokohama but it didn't convince me. So I went back to Ginza and bought the SLGA009 instead. Wako Ginza and the other department stores in Ginza are very crowded. I didn't like the atmosphere there. The GS Boutique however is very small and cozy. I really liked it. I will definitely revisit this Boutique on my next Japan trip.

Thank you for sharing a video of this visit to the Grand Seiko Boutique. A video very well done in HD quality, especially with the camera close up on the watch. Wished I had discovered your channel much earlier, hopefully I didn't miss much of your earlier videos, else I will have lots of catching up to do. Grand Seiko is a brand well regarded and recognised by many Seiko fans as well as watch enthusiasts worldwide to be a very well built and advanced in terms of technology (especially the Spring Drive technology). As much as I like Grand Seiko's many different, beautiful dials, the impeccable finishing of the cases with Zaratsu polishing and as much as I would like to get one for my collection, I may think twice before spending the cash on one as servicing the watch may not be easy. Do they have servicing centers around the globe with watchmakers trained by Grand Seiko (with the same level of training as the watchmakers working full time in Grand Seiko) ? If not, does it mean that I have to ship the watch back to Grand Seiko Japan for the watch movement to be serviced ? That would definitely my increase my costs of owning and maintaining the watch. However, having said that, I may consider getting a quartz version of the Grand Seiko since it is easier to service and the costs of servicing a quartz watch is generally lower as compared to a mechanical one. I may just visit one of the Grand Seiko Boutiques in Japan on my next visit to Tokyo, hopefully they speak some English, else I may need to bring a translator with me.

People buying those watches are usually wealthy and don't care too much about 200$ more or less. I don't know if there's a Grand Seiko branch in your country. You could just ask them if they can maintenance the watch you are planning to buy or not. According to my research - I am German - some of the watches can be maintained in Germany some are sent to Japan. Depends on the movement and the work that needs to be done. Certain damages are only repaired in Japan. I just bought the SLGA009 in Tokyo. I don't really care how much it costs, it's a luxury item.

How much money should you bring if you are buying grand seiko in Japan?

Very disappointed with grand seiko..I have SBGX085 and am missing two small screws from spare links.I wear the watch at present but grand seiko Dublin Ireland say grand seiko want the watch sent back to Japan to sort issue..I told them the watch is ok but I just need the screws which are tiny for the spare links..I don't class this as good customer service ...why they can't just supply me with two small screws .unbelievable. .puts me off buying a grand seiko.again...hope they see this messege

@@smallego8068 local gs dealer wanted watch sent back to them ,made a big deal out of it..I said nothing wrong with watch just need two screws only...I got them free from dealer in uk..I live in Ireland ..Still had to pay duty on them although I got them free..fitted them myself ..had to remove half link and add full link to make it fit properly...thanks

Thank you for having English subtitles 🙏. I am sure they are very nice watches. However, I cannot get over just by putting 'Grand' in front of Seiko making the brand to be more Grand. They are still Seiko watches with better finishing. That's all. If I want to buy exceptional watches, I would go for Patek Philippe or even better ones like FP Journe, Lang & Heyne, etc but not Seiko with a 'Grand' in front.

There is nothing out there works like Grand Seiko and especially Spring Drive. Grand Seiko is hand built and small volume batches making wearing a Grand Seiko is special and unique. Patek is one of great find watches but not everyone wants a Patek.

My sweet summer child. Grand Seiko watches are works of engineering art both internal and the dials. The Swiss refuse to acknowledge that the 80 hour 36000 beat line is everything they have and more and the Spring Drive is a fusion of Quartz and mechanical entwined.
