Meng’sかな Not being able to look at the other person’s face sounds quite uncomfortable. The other guy could have been autistic or something. I would listen to him & OK, “bye!” 👋 But I would feel bad as Meng if for whatever reason I can’t look at them 😅

I think Meng wins because of how absolutely awkward that situation would be, plus, even if it is that guy's fault that he didn't post pictures and created this expectation on his looks... still, poor dude, it's not his fault that he's ugly, he was born like that. So yeah, a shity sutuation all and all. Andrew's date was shitty but at least I would take it as an interesting story to tell with how blunt and cold that guy was. Meng's it's just a sad story 😭😭

Andrew's, for sure. I think you can laugh about how bad the food is - it can be something to bond over. I also think it's ok to say that chemistry is impossible to predict until you meet someone in person and there's no chemistry but you're an awesome person. I think that is what Meng should have done. I have made some great friends from failed dates. Andrew's date though, OMG, leaves you feeling cold and yucky inside even just talking about it. Like, Andrew could have gone his whole life without meeting this cold, awful person.

In a weird way, I sort of 'respect' the blatant honesty of Andrew's date. At least, he is being upfront about his intentions and not leading people on by pretending to be in love with them. I have heard so many stories of people pretending to love someone so that the person will marry them and then they can get permanent residence in the U.S. / Canada / Europe / Australia / etc. Then, as soon as they get their permanent residence, they leave the person and that can be so painful for the person who sponsored them.

HI Tokyo BTM, I can truly relate to this video I too was tricked and fell in love here in the USA, San Diego, CA to be exact about 10 years ago. It's wasn't for a green card, though, simply for money. It's sad that guys can be so cold hearted and robotic and even evil to treat people that way and go on with their life as if nothing ever happened. I was with this guy for 2 and half years and it truly affected me deeply emotionally, mentally and even physically. It devastated me beyond comprehension and I even lost EVERYTHING! job, car all belongings. But I persevered and I am turns out a very strong, confident and smart man maybe unknowingly at that time. Anyways good segment. Keep it up. Ganbatte!!! ❤

sometimes we want to believe in some fairy tail that it is finally happening to us. but usually it is hard to avoid a fact, that you don't feel warmth from a partner. It is either there or not. I get that some people can be very good actors and they are following wrong path in their life. Maybe I will be left alone for the rest of my life, - but if I don't feel that the other person really truly care about me same way as I do about him, - nothing ever gonna happen.

I’m kinda team bad teeth. But only because Meng chose to meet the guy without first insisting on a clear picture. I wouldn’t say bad teeth exactly catfished, because he didn’t use a fake picture and attractiveness is subjective so it is not a lie to say that some people find him attractive. It’s nice that Meng gave the guy a chance and tried to look passed his appearance. But if the guy was really unattractive I wouldn’t have been able to pretend to like him either.

I don’t agree because he did provide written descriptions that did not align to what he actually look like. I mean the real deal is let’s quit playing games 95% of the time if they’re hiding their faces it’s for a reason that goes beyond them not being out. I don’t know what app they were using but many of them allow you to have disappearing pictures or if you try to take screenshots of it, the picture won’t appear.

But you didn't even try to get to know the person. By obsessing on the teeth, you put your barrier up. Imagine a scenario where you meet a guy and you are in love with his looks. You started to develop feelings and thinking your future together. But he got into an accident and leave a scar/defect on his face. It's something that will bother you, how would you feel then? In my humble opinion, only those who are matured will find real love. FYI, I know what it's like when people don't want to share their pictures. I still go on a date with them if they're nice and sincere enough. I would rather see the world as a cup half full rather than half empty. Even if it don't work out at least you can make new friends.

Thanks for the blog guys…you guys look terrific 😊 better lighting on today’s blog..Meng, love the nails❤ If Meng’s experience was a “ blind date” my opinion would be just that, blind dates are just about meeting someone to see if you have anything in common..As far as Anndrew’s date, after realizing what this guy was after, I would have “ played” him, telling him I could get his green card,BUT, we would have to become more intimate in order to pass immigration.Then, after awhile, if things weren’t going well, I would have dumped him, telling him “ it’ not you, it’s me”😂

I'm Team Meng for sure but I also feel bad for Team Bad Teeth as they will likely continue this cycle throughout their lives. I also don't think they have the capacity to feel guilty about wasting someone else's time which reflects a selfish way of thinking/behaviour cause they may have pretty low self-esteem (don't we all on some level) and getting to be able to meet someone above their perceived grade is already a win for them.

I don't think anyone is a villain in this case because he didn't lie. He just didn't show any picture (or any one in which his face is clearly visible). Lesson learnt for Meng (and for everyone else) - if looks are a thing you care about to some extent - basically 95% of the population if I'm being generous, don't agree to meet someone without a proper picture. It's also not fair to say that mr bad teeth wasted someone else's time as he has clearly stated his intention which is wanting to meet someone without presenting a picture. If Meng (or whoever else) agrees to meet him, it's really on them as this was a consensual meet up, even if it seems like a waste of time on hindsight. Alternatively, you have to feel ok to just politely excuse yourself upon meeting so you don't waste your own time. I've done that when a hookup turned out to look different than the pics he sent. "Sorry I'm not really feeling it. Good luck!" takes some getting used to saying but ultimately came in really handy.

I feel like the intense shift to apps is a big part of it. People used to meet people mostly in person. You might meet someone who's average looks but his manner, his body language, his presence, win you over. As a matter of fact, I have never had a good relationship with anybody who was quintessentially "my type". But now people reject huge swaths of people based on a photo alone. I suppose the upside is that if you want, you can tell more about yourself on an app, though many never do

Meng's story reminded me of my stay at Trades Hotel in Blackpool, England, well known as one of the crusiest gay hotels in the country. I was in the bar in the early evening and the bar man lowered the mood lighting so that you could make out people's faces in general but you wouldn't see their blemishes. Anyway this guy approached me and he appeared to have nice hair and he was quite slim. He told me he was a regular but everyone thought he looked ugly so he never had much luck. I began to tell him that I thought he was decent enough looking guy and he shouldn't put himself down. A couple hours later he asked if he could join me in my room for some fun. I led the way and I turned on my light just before he came in the door. When I turned around I suddenly realised that he WAS UGLY!! Anyway after all my encouragement I couldn't tell him this so I did my best to have fun and not look at him and at the end I said I wasn't used to spending all night with others in the room so he went up to leave but not before I told him again that I thought he was a nice guy and to feel good about himself. I'd like to think that brutal honesty would NOT have been the decent thing to do in this particular case. Andrew's story is amazing. I have heard similar stories.
@imhoned4532
@imhoned4532 Жыл бұрын
This isn’t the same as the story Meng described. 1) You weren’t at a disadvantage because everyone in the room had their faces obscured. 2) you chose to be in a space with a level of anonymity and consented to being in that space. You aren’t being “tricked” like Meng was. 3) Some people, including myself, see dimly lit spaces of sexual encounters as a kink. We don’t necessarily place an emphasis on needing to see face in these spaces. This is completely different than setting up a meeting via platform.
@davidnunan1819
@davidnunan1819 Жыл бұрын
Ok, we are being very pedantic here. In relation to your first point everyone in the room did not have their faces obscured, I think there was a blue spotlight or something near us two. Had I moved with him to another part of the room I guess nothing would have happened in terms of fun in the room but I wouldn't have stopped talking to him. As for your second point yes you are right I wasn't being tricked by the person I was talking to but as a result of a trick of the light I was mislead, so light bulbs fault, lol. As for your third point the place wasn't dimly lit from a kink point of view, I mean there was still a fair bit of light. I would describe it more as 'mood' lighting with different colours, I think white, red and blue. So this 'memory' was one of me thinking I was speaking to a cute guy, because in that blue light he looked OK and then in the 'full light of day' so to speak I saw the real face. I didn't say that my experience was exactly like Meng's experience but rather it 'reminded me' (key phrase here) of an experience of my own and in that sence it most definitely is not completely different, thankyou, @@imhoned4532

Hi guys! Loved the video, I too can relate. Not only I got tricked like Meng, but also I even got tricked with old photos too! ☠ I think that guy probably didn't have enough confidence on his looks and that's why he decided not to show himself. I agree with what Andrew said, also recommend that guy a therapist too lol. Fun fact iHere in Argentina we have a lot of inmigrants (I was kind of like 'dating' / going out?) with a Mexican and he introduced me a lot of his friends from Mexico, Colombia, Perú... And it was really common for them to marry argentinian people for convinience (of course both parties agreed to it). What I found it to be really funny is that one of his friends is a lesbian, married to a straight guy while dating with her now girlfriend 😂(I'm not saying is a common thing to do so, but It does happens! I was a bit of surprised since many of his friends did this). Now concerning Andrew's particular episode, the way this guy talked to Andrew was really direct and close to "sin tacto". That whole conversation could have been talked on Grindr and you both wouldn't have wasted your time. But on the other hand, he was blunt but also honest, he was telling exactly what he wanted and even said that to you the first time you both met. I'm not defending that guy, but I'd give him credit at least he had the guts to say it first and wait for your response. I'd have been terrible if it turnout like Meng's friends story.

Great talk, guys :) I loved your story, Andrew 😂 Meng, you had the perfect excuse to bail! Food poisoning! 😂 I would have stayed a bit and excused myself... When I used apps I didn't reply if they didn't have pictures, but it could happen that even with a picture it ends up being a horrible date... To be fair I've tried to make the most of those situations but as soon as the food was over I would have maxed just walked a but with them and then ran away l😅

Welcome back, you two! Y'all look well-rested and handsome as ever :) Slightly hurt but laughed so hard at the "It tastes a little Artificial...Very American" comment but #WhereIsTheLie?! For the record, I'm Team Meng on this one. No one is the villain here. You just weren't looking for someone with black teeth/gum. NPNR is a thing for a reason, but something tells me even if clear face pics were sent...you wouldn't have found out about the teeth situation until you met him. So, I commend you for taking a chance! Thanks for sharing your stories/thoughts. Thanks for the AWESOME video editing once again. Keep putting yourselves out there, boys! Clubs, bath houses, coffee bars, Jonathan's.... As for "Gaijin hunter" and "My Friend Says I'm not Bad-looking", we wish you nothing but the best! Now sashay away.

At least he was honest. I am trying to find someone who would come to Japan (my citizenship) with me from Canada (where my permanent residency is at) but there is absolutely no one who would come to Japan with me and start something new. There is also a thing called yuujo kekkon which is like platonic marriage. probably a lot of asexual guys or women who just want to have a baby look for a partner. So it’s not totally surprising.

Andrew's story: The sheer psychopathic levels of boldness that guy had to be to openly say "yea i want to use you for a green card, what of it?" is kinda terrifying but at least you didn't have to waste any more time on him. Meng's story: Even though personality should be more important then looks, i think we really need to stop kidding ourselves that looks don't matter. You're not a bad person for wanting looks AND personality, everyone does whether they want to admit it or not. Though of cause beauty is subjective so someone's 1/10 could be your 10/10.

Take it from an American rice crispy treat connoisseur… my mom used to make them at home. But the mass produced one that you just tasted does taste very artificial. I wish that wasn’t the first one you’ve tried. Believe it or not the ones from Starbucks taste much closer to home made.

I always thought that if a guy invites you to his place, especially at night after a date, it means he wants to finish the night with a bit of "fun". Well, during the date he said he wanted me to go to his place for a bit of Mario Kart. I accepted, thinking it was an excuse to get me there, but on the way in the train, he said "oh, but it's really just for Mario Kart, ok? I live in a sharehouse and I can't take you to my room". So I went there, we played some Mario Kart in the common room, and I left. The date itself was fine, but going all the way there for just a bit of Mario Kart felt a little weird. We talked a few more times but never met again.

Andrew, the guy did only ONE thing wrong…which was not put his intentions in the dating profile and give you the choose ahead of time to go through with it. If that’s what he’s all about then fine, he was honest and up front and very clear. It’s you who wanted to still make it non-transactional. His only mistake was that he wasted your time by not putting that in his profile. The setup makes perfect sense to me. It would be foolish to blur the line and try and extract some romance out of it. The guy doesn’t have mental health issues for wanting a green card arrangement-again, the mistake was to waste your time.

In terms of the disaster date Andrew had, I am curious to know why a Japanese person will want to leave Japan so bad that they are willing to get married to someone that they don't love. To me, the guy sounds like he was desperate to leave and would do anything for a green card. Is it the economy? The societal pressures? is it because he is gay?

I’m actuallly surprised at how many people in the comments section are wanting to “extract” romance from a transactional green card arrangement-like, accept it for what it is. If I was going to marry someone JUST for the green card I’d PREFER to not have attraction complicate things. Like seriously, why would you want a relationship where you knew that a huge part of it was transactional?? It would cloud the whole thing. You guys are confusing and mysterious.

yes, we can all be superficial, but some of us over time discover that personality can also go a long way. specially when you realize that a pretty face doesnt make up for a shitty uncaring person. and also there are people who strongly value beauty over personality and can stay in a bad relationship just cuz the 2 of them look good together, or cause the think they deserve the trophy partner

> In Andrew's story: anyone whose motive is a green card should say that before the meet, otherwise they start from a deception. In Meng's story: i think it's more difficult to say - but, if for whatever reason a person feels they cannot share a pic, saying why that is upfront might help; also, don't make claims untrue - if you're plain/looking, probably better to say that, and count on your nice personality & sincerity ~

Maybe I'm just an "honesty is the best policy" person, because I think the guy from the first story probably did people a favour by being so honest about his intentions? I also think that there are probably people who would be okay with that kind of agreement, but a Western man who'd be okay getting married for immigration purposes seems thin on the ground (and you'd certainly not find them on Grindr). I absolutely get Andrew feeling insulted though, because that's not why he was there - and he was essentially objectified based on his race, which is an awful way to treat someone on a date. With the second date, it's a "No assholes here" situation. I totally understand feeling embarrassed to show your face on dating sites because you're not sure on how you look, or because you're a private person, but that carries the innate risk of the person you go on the date with not finding you attractive. You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes!

I mean, if you connect intellectually I am okay with the sit down and be honest with them, but what it boils down to for me is we’re all adults. We who put ourselves out there on the apps and dates deserve more and better. Teaching faceless accounts the error of their ways will get so exhausting so fast. Even in Japan as foreigner I have no tolerance for games. #TeamMeng Let me give MY story really quick: I quickly learned that there is a trend on 9monsters of guys I’d been talking to before getting to Tokyo who wanted to meet for drinks or other things, then when I arrived they became so busy and unsure if they could find the time. Never met them, then the very day I left they text to make sure I got home safe or wanted to strike up conversation again. I’m no one’s Online Gaijin Boyfriend 😤😊

That JP guy would do better to marry a lesbian foreigner who has to get married because of her family. There is no benefit for the guy providing the green card unless you are incredibly lonely and need a plutonic companion.

Meng - please don’t feel bad about putting an element of importance in looks. Personality and kindness are of course very important. But honestly… by the end of the day, for me, if I don’t get “hard” I’ll pass 😂. I was like you when I was young - I was feeling ‘bad’ about putting any importance in looks… but unfortunately there is really no “sympathy” in romantic love. One certainly does not want to feel like a “martyr” or being “charitable” on a first date, let alone being a “charitable” lover in a long term relationship. Meng was too kind and sweet 😊 - I am not afraid of awkward situation, I would have done an “Andrew” and indicated to Meng’s “dental situation” date that it was bad form to misinform/disinform 😊 And for both Meng and Andrew… you guys have a fun channel and great fun to watch. Keep being your fabulous selves. As an older attached gay man, don’t ever change who you are… that special someone will show up and you will have absolutely no doubt that “he” is the one. Seriously! I was very skeptical until I met my current partner.

Okay I shall make a complete fool of myself. I actually Finally went to Tokyo for the 1st time in May this year. After 12 hours of flight, got to Shinjuku, dumped my bags at the Hotel. I am 10 minutes outside and i see both of you walking the street and crossing my path... There I was with heavy jetlag and looking awful (No Checkintime yet). I was like....I dont know what to do in THIS situation!? I was so not prepared! Also i did not want to be rude, since you were talking to eachother...😅😅 So i just blacked out and said nothing and kept on walking kept on walking 🤣. (Also after Andrew told the akward story of being recognised once in...was it a sauna ? not sure. I was like, maybe better i keep going.) Now i kinda regret not saying Hi though...😅

I met another day Chinese guy, - and he had huge black caries in his front top teeth (between). I understand that dentist services are not good in China (this guy was in US) and he probably struggled to get money here to fix those. But he had no intention probably to do it. Just first impression and I feel sorry about him. We are all coming from different backgrounds and unfortunately issues with teeth can be very complicated

Andrew's guy could've had Asperger's. The unusual reactions and bluntness seem to line up. Meng is trying to fool himself (understandably - we all want to think of ourselves as non-judgmental). They aren't EVERYTHING, but looks definitely matter. Meng would not want to settle for someone who doesn't excite him, and I think none of us would want to be settled for either. The poor guy's self-esteem must be so low. You only fool others because you believe that if they saw the real you, they would think you're hideous. That issue is for that guy to sort out. We all have to take responsibility for our own insecurities.

I am definitely team Meng. I think I would have reacted in a similar way. Maybe next time have him send you a photo in another way so only you could see in. Not exactly sure but you were in the right here to feel the way you did. You have standards and with that is you have a type and he just did not meet your standards for whatever reason. And maybe it is nobody’s fault.

Andrew, clearly the guy who met is a much better scenario. He was very upfront that it would just be a 'business' transaction. He should definitely have made it clear or 'sold' the reason for you to enter into the agreement. Is he going to buy you a house? Pay your rent for the few years? What? Would you rather him pretend and build a several year relationship on lies. Then just leave you, never having cared about you at all. That would be disturbing.
