(as one who for 8yrs. taught classroom CAD & co-wrote user guides) Really, really well done! smooth pace, good example & diagram, articulate easy to understand audio, even the very thoughtful 'quiet' jazz in background, further putting the listener at ease and makes the mind open. another 'like' & new subscriber here.

If you're only interested in the gap, you don't need to include the outer dimensions. You can eliminate 4, make 5 just from one end of the pocket to the other end, and eliminate 6.

Great video. Lets say the nominal clearance is 1mm if the positive direction to right. By shifting the positive direction to left then the nominal clearance gives -1mm. So, how to determine the direction because the sign changes for the nominal clearance which depends of the positive direction.

Thought he was going show the RSS calc that has worst case interference situation very improbable. For each part the MMC condition is ~2% probable. For them all to be at MMC simultaneously is much much less.
@RDeanOdell Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes this is just simple worst case analysis. It is very unlikely everything comes in at worst case, but in my opinion, this gives some room for error in the stackup. If something is not accounted for, there is so much conservatism built in already that it should be okay.

I'm curious - In order to remove the external dimensions and reduce down to 4, how would this affect the assembly of other parts? I feel like this would be done by changing the datum to one of the internal edges of the channel, correct? And if that's the case where you need to change the datum, would you then want to make the datum based on which part being manufactured requires the tightest tolerance?
@handsnow5 ай бұрын
I was just wondering if we could change 5+/-0.02 to 5.13+/-0.02, it seems also meet the requirement

Hi Mr. Odell. Can you recommend a resource if I want to learn to calculate a automotive wheel bearing and hub, the effects of circular runout on the overall hub runout ?

Is there a reason why the slot dimension at 4:44 is +/- 0.2 rather than +/- 0.4? My thinking is that the two ends of the slot both have +/- 0.2, so regardless the gap must be +/- 0.2 from both end stops - so 0.4?

How is this beneficial over just using a unilateral tolerance such as 3.000 +.100 -.000 or a min/max dimension?
@RDeanOdell2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I use bilateral equal tolerances to save a step in calculation. If I use a unilateral dimension I would have to convert it into an bilateral equal tolerance to “fit” into the table to do the arithmetic.

Well, no, at 3:40 when you say "this part wouldn't work" - that's not true, statistically this part would work / not work HALF the time. Tightening the tolerances doesn't it just "might not meet the requirements" it's entirely identical.
@OMR-ed4qs Жыл бұрын
what if you made it 3.08 instead of 3.09? The max will be 0.16 and min will be 0, so zero interference.

Hello I'm using it for unilateral Tolerance but not working, plz suggest me the solution. Can I use it for bilateral unequal Tolerances?
@RDeanOdell2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Unilateral tolerances must be converted to bilateral equal tolerances to do the arithmetic in the stackup.
