This script and the actually realized Rings of Power show us how wrong a Tolkien adaptation can go. I think an anthology series based on Tolkien's other works would be really cool though. Make it "Tales From the Perilous Realm". They probably would never do it since those stories aren't set in Middle-Earth.
@anarionelendili89612 жыл бұрын
To put the most charitable point on it, Tolkien himself said that he'd rather skip the Battle of Helm's Deep than some of the character arcs (paraphrasing here from memory). That being said, I am sure that his reaction to the Boorman script would be measured in rpms typically reserved for high-performance (non-solid state) hard drives. :P Having seen Excalibur & Zardos, I am not at all surprised for the scantily-clad, diaphanous gown dance and codpieces scene. Seems to be a Boorman trademark.

In my best Darth Vader voice: "I find your lack of faith disturbing." This script could've been comedic gold, except we also now have The Rings Of Power. Seriously, I now understand both J.R.R. and Christopher Tolkien's irritations over "adaptations."

25:00 So the Boorman integration of the Rohrim was George RR Martin's inspiration for the Dol-Thraki. Gotch' ya! (What the hell is this script?) I think JRR Tolkien would've had a heart attack if he heard Frodo yell "I AM THE LORD OF THE RINGS!!"
@erickpoorbaugh67282 жыл бұрын
The only time it would be acceptable to have Frodo yell that is after he’s been corrupted at Mount Doom. I wouldn’t add it even there, but I also wouldn’t be bothered if someone did. Having him say it at any other time is just ridiculous.

This script is terrible. Every time there is supposed to be a meaningful moment we are given crass sexuality, inane comedy, or the moment of danger, heroism, wisdom, or character growth is thwarted by the characters deciding to do something completely different from what they had been doing only moments before. Thankfully this never got made, although Amazon’s The Rings of Power seems to have drawn inspirations from this script 🤦🏽♂️

Ahahaha just found your vids on this script. It sounds like something a 1970s teenaged boy would write if he was tasked to summarize Tolkien's work but the only experience with fantasy lit his brain could handle was reading the Playboy mags he stole from his dad. LMAO no Saruman but yes to the 13-year old Arwen, a scantily-clad Galadriel in a desert oasis having a secret NSFW session with Frodo, and Rohan as a tribe of dancing women and Rohirrim in cod pieces, wahahaha okaaay...

You're just another follower who's jumped on the bandwagon of negative bias against _Rings of Power._ Your criticisms against the show are exaggerated or baseless. The show isn't great, but it's decent so far; however, haters like you won't admit even that much. I swear by the calluses on my hands, the likes of you - biased and hateful - will regret your criticisms when the full story of Rings of Power has unfolded and all of its narrative threads have been rectified and have paid off. You will recognize and admire the true quality of this show in retrospect.
@firelizard24252 жыл бұрын
If you watch the videos he made before RoP actually came out, he went in with an open mind the whole time. The only negative attitude he had towards the show prior to seeing it was some parts of what was teased that contradicted the lore that Tolkein wrote. Now that it's out he's seen it and decided for himself that it's not fantastic. That's not really jumping on a bandwagon, that's just forming an opinion that happens to agree with other people's opinions. If you hear from your friends that "the pasta at this restaurant is always bland" then you order the pasta and decide, after eating it, that it is in fact bland, have you "jumped on the bandwagon of negative bias" or did you just happen to agree with your peers?
@jeffburke56062 жыл бұрын
I'm also a long time Tolkien geek, and I dislike the Rings of Power because the series is just flat out badly written. I don't care about changes to the canon; I don't care about the politics; what I do care about is that the show writers don't bit more than a goose know how to present compelling or likable characters, don't know how to hold the viewer's interest and don't know how to pace a story properly.
