The man who created this song explained why he said the song was 'impossible' - not because the notes were unreachable (the singer at the time hit all of the notes!) but rather because of the very fast parts. He was speaking of a human inability to switch between notes as fast as editing the notes closer together could, with the same precision and sharpness. And so the studio editing in question was simply this: The singer sang the notes more slowly. She hit all of the notes with no assistance. He edited the notes closer together to create fast note progressions. The artificial part of the song wasn't in helping her hit notes but in putting the notes closer together than humans can switch between notes. Since this song was created, there are a number of singers who have practiced singing those notes with a similar speed, and many of them have gotten so close that they sound artificial to some ears. That includes this woman, as well as a Chinese singer named Jane Zhang and an Indic man named Dimash Kudaibergen. You can tell that it's their actual voices because each of them lose control over the notes when they try to switch between the notes so fast. This creates noticeable imperfections-- a wobble here or there, a slight off-pitch note as they transition from one note to another, but most importantly, the speed is never exact. All of them, at some point in their runs, are chasing the background music, falling a little behind because of the difficulty of trying to sing notes at that exacting pace. This woman actually altered the song so that she wouldn't have to make such a large transition from one note to another, thereby allowing her to reach notes more quickly. That's the method that most of these singers use, which is why few of them perform the song exactly the way it's done in the movie.

This aria (song) is from the opera "Lucia de Lammermoor" an Italian opera set in Scotland and based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott. I have been to Donizetti's tomb which is in the cathedral of the beautiful northern Italian city of Bergamo not far from Milan. Donizetti of course wrote many other operatic masterpieces both comic and tragic and his works are a staple of the operatic repertoire. Donizetti himself had a tragic life ending up with dementia at a relatively young age .

God knows how many times I have been listening to this song, and of course the name of the song is certainly not " The Fifth Element " but "Il Dolce Suono" from Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor instead. I am so get used to the movie version that I can tell how many notes were not sticked to it, but she is definitely amazing, probably the best live of the movie version I have ever watched, btw, her voice sounds so close to Inva Mulla Tchako, the vocal in the ost, I really doubt if she's the same person a couple of times

@@minachae9464 when you look at her face and listen to the voice very carefully then you will see. When someone does a half or full playback, you can easily recognise the slight, subtle disharmony between the face muscles and the rest of the body movements and the pre recorded and played voice. Another indication could be when the performer is physically moving and dancing a lot (not here though!) even a slight movement in the body can cause subtle voice changes. I have 12 years of singing and musical background, the more subtle the harder to be recognised for people... that's why half or full playback works on stage in the first place.

You can hear that some of the really tricky bits have been cut out to make performing this even possible, but still a supremely impressive singer. The original singer in the movie, Inva Mula, did not actually sing the whole thing either. Segmented recording and some editing was necessary to create the whole piece. But apparently the composer was astonished by her ability to do much more/better than a human should be able to, on a composition written explicitly to outrun the capabilities of humans (so as to emphasize the Diva’s otherworldly capabilities).

He hired a blonde model for the role, but she went missing 2 days before the blocking. Mr. Besson then asked his fiancée to the part. She sang the entire song (after 3 months preparation).
