Great repair, always nice to see a disc edition get saved. I have a 1215 disc edition I have been stumped on for a while, it had a 12v short I fixed thanks to your videos(helped me find the exact mostfet to replace). It boots up, repairing console storage loads to 100% then restarts, blue light then turns off. Beeps when pressing the power button after that then next button push the storage repair again. Just changed the ssd controller but symptoms stayed the same. Signs of water damage so maybe a short somewhere I would just be surprised it boots with a short.

@apoco_lips9957 5 ай бұрын
@@accountalreadyinuse Thank you for the idea, I think I could test that by swapping a known good bios and it should make it past the repairing storage loop at the least. Much easier to remove than the ssd controller at least

Great to see you back after a short break. Always enjoyed your videos - very informative. In this video and previous you've briefly mentioned the consoles not being banned which is obviously good. If you do get a banned console, what do you typically do with them? Use them as donor boards - fix them and re-sell at lower price - or can you get them unbanned. Always wondered about this.
@ToltecMerc
@ToltecMerc 5 ай бұрын
@@tnbulldog7052 no way to unban as the console is banned in Sony’s servers. I don’t try to sell banned consoles, I just use them for parts.

Very interesting that you are measuring the temp. Is your temp probe at the site of the chip? Seems to me it's a smart idea you have because you know around what kind of temp the board needs to get to to lift and replace the chip. Do you write those values down, so you can apply it to the next board? Seems it lifted around 170C and went on around 150C. Awesome because it saves you from putting too much heat in or not enough.
@ToltecMerc
@ToltecMerc 5 ай бұрын
I have the probe wedged into a hole as close as I can get to the PCB. I usually heat the board until the board temp shows around 100C before I use 400C air from above.

@@the_real_Wieniet you might be able to add thermal conductive pads on top that would then need to contact the metal shield covering the board. I’m not sure how thick this would have to be.

@ToltecMerc
@ToltecMerc Ай бұрын
The 5V does not go straight to the South Bridge so I would not think that is your short. Probably a shorted cap somewhere on the 5V bus and it does go all over the board.
