Excellent repair of two faults. A sincere congratulations. Thank you very much for sharing. All the best. PS: (5:44) I could clearly see the part number of that Southbridge IC even without my glasses. Another way to say it, a professional (expert) approach. I am a new subscriber but I will dare to make a suggestion: Master, please, you should make a video for each PCB, that is, EDM-010, EDM-020... showing us (focusing on) the components of both sides or faces. .. well, It is always valid to ask (request). Thanks in advance.

Great videos! Could you please tell me what your microsope setup is as well as your hot-air station. Thanks again for getting great video's out.
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
My microscope is a AmScope. I'm not really sure what the model number is but it's nothing fancy. Just a basic microscope with a trinocular port. My hot air station is a Quick 861DW. It works well enough for me. If you use anything long enough you learn what it can do and how long it takes to get something to temperature.

Beautiful fix! I have a question. For the low diode readings you measured on the HDMI breakout, would it be possible to point out to a bad encoder by simply testing the caps around the encoder for shorts or is it not always the case? I'm guessing a short found on the caps will not cause the ps5 to even boot maybe?
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
I have seen encoders fail in different way. If the power rails going in short, it will cause the console to just beep when the power button is pressed. With this encoder, just the outputs shorted. It's probably rare for it to fail like this one did.
@DrCryogenic Жыл бұрын
@@ToltecMerc So different fail scenarios for the encoders. Thanks 😁.

nice T8280 preheater, I'd like to buy one too. Watch out the poor internal ground connection and If you want a quieter one change the internal fan. There's a nice video with a Noctua upgrade.

How are you attaching your thermocouple on the backside?
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
I simply wedge it into a nearby hole making sure the bead makes direct contact with the PCB. I use the clothespin to hold it in position since tape lets go under the heat.

Do you know where to source the fuse/chip for F3501? I have one that's obviously burned out. The person I bought it from said they "hooked it up to a car battery"
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
It seems to vary with board revision but F3501 seems to be either a 2.5A or 5.0A fuse rated for 32V and size 0402.
@korntoolapc Жыл бұрын
@@ToltecMerc someone told me supposedly it's a USB current limiter? It's the black circuit with the 8 solder points next to that fuse that's fried. I'm pretty new to the SMD repairs and bought this ps5 as a learning device! Been fixing phones for 10 years and need something new. So I'm still pretty raw with this all, need to really dig into your videos.

I have been injecting 3.3V at up to 3A and its just absorbing 3A and nothing getting hot. My thoughts are southbridge but with nothing getting hot it's hard to tell. Could you give me you thoughts please. I am at a loss now without removing the southbridge.
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
Where are you injecting 3.3V? What model board? What are the symptoms?
@sparky150875 Жыл бұрын
@ToltecMerc Hi, thanks for the reply. It is an original xbox one. I started at the inductor on the 3.3v rail just below the wifi/btooth connector as that was shorted. I removed the inductor to isolate the side that was shorted and had no current draw whatsoever. So I found it was shorted on pad 7 on the top row of the 2 rows of test points. It has a small cap next to it. Started at 1v @1A and ended up at 3.3v @3A absorbed all the current every time. I am an amateur but trying to learn. It's the first time I've done this so not sure if I'm correct. Thanks again

Just ordered my 8280 preheater, . I noticed you run an external probe sensor. Just another point of reference?
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
I need to know the actual temperature of the board. The display on the heater just shows the temperature of the surface of the heater assembly.
@Foxx_69 Жыл бұрын
Ok. I was wondering if a board probe's was included with it like some others. For chips like the south bridge. Or memeory. What temp you like to see?! I am doing similar work, but never used preheater.
