Birth of Urdu is the reason why it is thought to be language of Muslims. Word "urdu " is Turkish word meaning "Troops ".It got it's name since it originated among troops who spoke different languages (Arabic,Persian, Turkish ).Mughals (the Muslims )who came to and ruled Hindustan back then brought these solders from Turkey ,Persia and Arab nations.The solders made up this language while in Hindustan. That's why Urdu has most of Persian words ,some Arabic and sanskrit . Sanskrit which is and was original language of Bharat is thought to be language of Hindus and Urdu as language of Muslims. Later adopted by a Muslim nation.urdu is national language of Pakistan but its has a lot of influence of regional language .Very few people are found speaking Urdu with it's true flavour.

I am addicted to Jashn-e-Rekhta's videos. So smart. So secular. As someone who barely understands Urdu beyond gleaning the meanings through context, I still love the language not just because of its romanticism, but because of what it has come to mean to a secular India.

i took classes in Spanish language many years ago and was surprised to learn that whole lot of words in English language were borrowed from Latin, Spanish languages. English even has in it words from South Indian languages in addition to French and German and that was the reason English became most expressive form of communication and an international language. Same happened to Hindi, it borrowed words from Persian, Arabic and other languages and that came to be called Urdu, (Lashkari Zaban- common language amongst soldiers from different geographical areas, speaking different languages or dialects) or an improved Hindi, just like modern English, as every language progresses in vocabulary or expression with time by interaction with other languages and cultures. That is the reason, no one speaks Latin or Sanskrit today. It is fortunate, that due to politics and name calling Urdu as language of the Muslims or Pakistan, Hindi regressed to its pre-Urdu form and suffered immensely and probably irrevocably.

Urdu was a Lashkari i.e troop language to communicate with local Indian of that time. It is born as a Urdu language in India absorbing Arabic, Hindi, Persian, Turkish and Sanskrit. It is became Muslim language when Pakistan declared that Urdu is Pakistan national language

Kaise Muslim language hui ji? Urdu Hindustani language hai. Aur iska kisi majhab se koi taalluq nahi hai. Arabi ko shayad aap Muslim language keh paayein, woh bhi debatable hai. Lekin Muslim ki koi universal language hogi toh woh Arabi ho sakti hai. Guzaarish hai ke Urdu ko majhabi rang na dein. UP ki hybrid language hai. Isme zayad lafz aur structure Hindi hi hai. Sirf mukhtalif kuch lafzein Arabi, Farsi etc se jodi gayi hain. Yahaan toh Urdu lafzein har koi istemaal karta hai. Hindi bolte waqt bhi.

Even here Urdu is thought to be mother tongue of 'Hindustani'Pakistanies .when it is said he/she is 'Hindustan infact means someone who's origin is UP ,Bihar and the regions in present day India and regions not in Pakistan. But these people are Pakistanis.Their parents or forefathers migrated from regions where urdu is and was the only language. They are also sometimes called "Urdu speaking ",that is no other regional language is their mother tongue.

This is a great discussion however the founders of India made a huge mistake by shunning Urdu as a language. It was tried for 70 years but couldn’t get rid of it. It is all political based on hatred for Pakistan and then Muslims. It is a sad development because we would have been closer as good neighbors had this not be done.

The masjid talk was very wrong. When the regular imam is not there any one from the crowd who is more knowledgeable becomes imam not the one whose beard is longer. Even a 6 year old can if he knows more Quran! People with long beard may not even know how to recite Quran properly

With all due respect, I would disagree with your point of even a 6 years old can. How can a child be an Imaam unless he's capable of understanding the rules and duties of Imaamat, although namaz is farz after 7 and compulsory after 11. Try not to take each and every word literally. If you understand the context of Imaamat here you can relate to that reference by Alam Sahab.

With all due respect I do disagree with whole concept that Urdu doesn't belong to any one group, it's a language of people who developed this language after living in this country for centuries & their culture was very different then Hindu culture & that was not Urdu tehzeeb but Muslim tehzeeb.Urdu script originated from Arabic, & Persian language. Hindi alphabets didn't have ش ق غ خ or ز ف so they adopted . dot to compensate that. Hindu culture is a beautiful culture it self, but centuries later Hindu & muslims find themselves awkward culturally. That's why our youth trying to find a common ground & very much influenced by western culture because they find a common ground to relate with each other.

It is you against the experts. By the way, can you even count from 1 to 10 without using Sanskrit words? Sanskrit for one is Ekaha. Two-Dwitiya (do in Urdu, Hindi) etc etc. When experts say Urdu has 90% Hindi words you either believe it or if you are an expert, disprove it standing there in the podium! You must be from Pakistan, so let me ask you a simple question. How do you say in Urdu: what is your name? Aap ka naam kya hai? Right. The word "naam" is of Sanskrit origin! Muslim fundamentalists have tried to Persianize, later Arabize Urdu but u still can't get rid of some words, can you?

Sridhar Kaushik stop using some random internet answer and calling it “expert”. And Urdu is not half Hindi and half persian as someone said. Urdu existed before Hindi therefore urdu can not be half Hindi. It is Hindi which is like urdu if there are similarities. Majority of Urdu vocabulary come from Persian, Sanskrit, and Arabic. Sanskrit has influenced all indo-European languages, that’s why there are Sanskrit based words in Urdu, persian, German, etc. But trust me when I tell you, being a student of Arabic I can tell you that there is A LOT of Arabic in Urdu, so imagine how much persian there is. However when these words are used in Urdu, they are neither Arabic persian Sanskrit or any other language. They are URDU not any other language.

Yes,when it comes to question of earning good bread and butter here one needs to learn English, if not good,then at least be able to read and write and comprehend English. Alas ,many can't speak good English and some not at all.Many in Punjab are heard speaking in Punjabi (in Punjab ) in good institutions and Pashtu in Kheybar pakhtukhwa province. Sindhis preference Sindhi neither English nor Urdu.

The discussion is utterly rubbish and useless the dislikes for Islam and muslims in India is the reason of hate with Urdu otherwise this is the only language which rules over entire subcontinent there is no art culture music poetry literature and cenima without Urdu language people on big cities of subcontinent talk in Urdu enjoy Urdu and get fame and fortune through this language although a failed effort is also underway to popularize other languages on the shoulders of the popularity of Urdu language now and even beyond the sub continent!!
