Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone, who directed 12 episodes this show, directed the 2010s movies, along with working on 2005’s “The Karate Guard” with original co-creator, Joe Barbera, which was supposed to kickstart a new line of theatrical shorts that fell through, so the rest that were in production were repurposed for Tom & Jerry Tales. Joseph Barbera, one of the original creators of Tom & Jerry, was also one of the developers and executive producers of this show. He also was a creative consultant and/or executive producer on every Tom & Jerry movie until A Nutcracker Tale, which ended up being released posthumously in 2007. The animation studio Yearim, who did most of the animation for the series, animated all of the direct to video movies from Fast & The Furry to Willy Wonka.

@@bryannguyen1067 The art style of The Karate Guard looks pretty similar to Tom & Jerry Tales, but with better animation. I don’t think the originally planned shorts would look much different, but it probably depends on the director and animation studio involved. Yearim, the animation studio behind The Karate Guard, animated the best looking episodes of the show. If they were supposed to animate all the theatrical shorts, I wouldn’t be surprised, considering the consistently good quality from the studio. Since there’s 16x9 prints of Tom & Jerry Tales, there is probably also a 16:9 widescreen version of The Karate Guard floating around in the archives somewhere.

Coyote, Yosemite Sam, Sylvester, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig are huge examples ) every time he fails at catching Jerry as the clever mouse foils Tom's plans in the most Looney Tunes/Tex Avery/Animaniacs-esque ways imaginable ( a la AOSTH's version of Sonic when getting the best of Dr. Robotnik ). I always see Tom and Jerry Tales as the Looney Tunes and Animaniacs of the 2000's ! T&JT is not like What's New Scooby-Doo, Baby Looney Tunes, Teen Titans, Static Shock and other shows in the Sander Schwartz era of WB Animation ! This T&J series has a huge Looney Tunes-styled structure while staying faithful to the original T&J cartoons ! Whenever I need a good laugh, I always watch Tom and Jerry Tales !

Looking at this series’ run, I don’t know if it ran for 2 seasons, but looking at the art style, I noticed the original first batch of episodes had this art style that was more known with the Tom & Jerry film, Shiver Me Whiskers, basically if it was done by the same people who worked on What’s New Scooby-Doo. Then the next batch of episodes I can tell we’re done by Spike Brandt, who is well known for his iconic involvement with the cat and mouse duo, whether for better with A Nutcracker Tale, or for worse with the direct to DVD crossover movies, and is also known for his work alongside Tom Bancroft on the 2021 sequel of Space Jam, A New Legacy

The Shiver Me Whiskers animation style looks leagues better than the episodes with the animation style from The Nutcracker. It just flows better and the slapstick is way funnier instead of being jarring and horrific like the other one. Plus they look too much like Droopy in the Spike Brandt animation style.

I think they animated it in widescreen, but they resize it to 4:3 ratio to fit it to your screen. Similar to Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, they do the same thing.

@@KennyFromPH07 Most WB animated productions from the time did this. EX: What’s New, Scooby-Doo?, Baby Looney Tunes, and The Batman, among others. The Tom & Jerry direct-to-video films from Blast Off To Mars to A Nutcracker Tale were made like this also. Season 1 of the Bruce Timm Justice League cartoon actually did the opposite, as it was produced in 4:3, but framed in a way so if it’s was cropped to 16x9 widescreen, you won’t lose any important details. The JL crew always though of the episodes as “mini-movies”, and they started producing them in 16x9 starting with season 2.
