The way you react gives me life. The small wrinkle of your brow, the quiet smiles, the widening eyes (when you see Tom really come alive & makes his mark on this rendition for the first time), etc. I feel like I find a new way to enjoy this performance based on your reaction. Probably because I truly respect your comments & that your own knowledge & talent is informs them (in a great way). I’ve been watching your reactions on a whole bunch of videos (found you through Hamilton reactions) & I just get so much joy watching you react. There’s also something I can’t put my finger on, sort of like my fascination with Gerard Butler’s interpretation of the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera. There’s just something about the emotion on his face made me fall in love with that story again.

I always love to listen to your reactions and ^this one^ was ni exception to all you offer. Tom Ball's performance truly was stunning. The harmonies, his gorgeous, expressive voice with such passion in this song was beyond incredible! I truly believe that some people have that special gift - that *stuff of life and love* - others do not have in the way he does, and his gift is so unassuming and astounding and he sings with such ease! He is so genuine and that also impacts this performance! ust a magnificent song for him and audition for him ON AGT!

Tom is 24 now & just starting his voyage, & he got some exposure on BGT & now AGT. Yes, I don't get why they pitch singers against acrobats & comedians, but AGT started out as a variety show, great fun in the sun watching with your grandkids. You'll see who he is & what he stands for all fit perfectly with his being a teacher & working with children...especially the (we) geeks & misfits. Thanks for letting me watch your face as these huge smiles came across it....words don't work , except WOW,!
@robertofont6069 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this, Mark! This is a gifted singer. When he started I knew that this was a tenor. His low notes (B flat & A flat) are going to be breathy because his vocal folds will not come together and vibrate. The higher he sang, the clearer and more focused is the voice as the folds come together. He has a natural vibrato which I hope he never loses. His ultra high notes (B, D flat, D) have an interesting mix of head voice and falsetto. This is a voice of musical theatre and with serious training (not coaching) he could in time even do opera. WOW! My wish list continues to be you, Mark and Anthem from CHESS featuring Anthony Warlow.

I can not get enough of his singing...he evokes emotion from deep within. I totally agree with you! AGT, BGT, just was not the right place! However, I would love to see him on the Voice, where it is all about the Voice! He would have to win! It was hard to see him loose to a comic and then an areial performer. Both were very good, but like you said, how can you compare a voice as his to that....especially his! I subcribed to you just for you saying that about talent shows. I know the judges feel this way also, but they were not the ones voting. I will listen to you again, so Thank You~

My newest vocalist crush is Michael Ball. Tom Ball, supposedly, wanted to sing like Michael. Unfortunately, for so many of us in the US, their style of singing is not an overly popular one, so they are better known in the UK. I wish they were popular here and did more shows and concerts in the US. Plus, Tom Ball seems to even have the happy, friendly personality we are used to with Michael Ball. They are both incredible!!!

You're right about the US favoring a different style of music. Unless someone here is interested in musical theater they'd almost never hear of Michael Ball or anyone from the UK pop music/ musical theater world. Michael, of course, is world famous now, but seems to love his UK based life & career more than touring the world. Tom seems to be building a solid career in the UK. Whether he wants to take it global is yet to be seen. KZbin exposure can only help.

The way he dropped down a key on “SONGS that voices never…” that’s usually where, as Garfunkel did in the original recording, the singer goes up to a higher range. I think this served a dual purpose. [I am no singer!] It saved him from having to top a high note too early in the song, and it also reversed our anticipation of, how we think the song will sound having heard it thousands of times before. Keeps it more interesting and engaging. I need tremendous talent. He looks like Michael Bublé had a child with Bernadette Peters!
@CandleLight1974 Жыл бұрын
You make a good point. The wonderful Tom was rightly expected after the auditions stage to win Britain's Got Talent but ended up third after Jamie Leahey, a beyond brilliant 13 year-old ventriloquist (who managed to make second place despite performing first in the final) and the winner, Axel Blake, a mediocre "comedian" who already had a career successful enough to sell out large venues but is a friend of judge, Alesha Dixon. However, the fact is that singers in reality TV singing competitions who are not "mainstream" have little chance in them as their purpose is to find a mainstream singer and give them a contract and have chart hits, so I have no problem with non-mainstream singers (opera, musical theatre, cross-over, etc) singersor groups appearing on '...Got Talent' shows.

So, there are two versions of Sound of Silence that your brain instantly tries to compare to... the original Simon and Garfunkel and Disturbed. What I like about this version is that, whie skewing towards the Disturbed rendition, it's neither. It's a unique take on the song. I don't necessarily agree with all the choices made, but man, that voice is amazing and I respect that he made it his own version.
