People over exaggerate the Tom Brady story. I mean they literally judged off his 40 time in a pocket passing era. He’s a 6’4 white guy and they act like he was supposed to be Randell Cunningham. Brady had all the tangibles and untangles since Michigan. But I get that they want to build up this American Underdog Story for generation & generations to come. Sports legends for the 21st century.

@@youngblood4127 Brady wasn't that good in college. Threw for like 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions each of his starting seasons. He's incredibly slow. Won 7 Super Bowls. That's a major underdog story not exaggerated by any means

@@JakeDaMistake he was splitting time between Drew Henson. But he was clearly better. Other than Chad Pennington, Brady should’ve been high as 2nd QB taken. My uncle actually went to Michigan and he saw it all in real time. Brady was no physical speciman but he was no slouch either. People were saying he played like Montana back then on campus.

And meanwhile he was also constantly picked on for not being good and that his team is the reason for his “apparent skill”. Purdy has had the exact same criticisms and even later draft round. Brady already had a reputation as a comeback kid back then in college as evidenced by what the interviewer said after the last college game. But this reputation was a double edged sword. The negative edge of the sword were the following. If he was so good a quarterback, why not lead the team from start to finish? Why leave it until later in the game? What was wrong with him that he could not score the first minutes? Were the wins flukes because the other teams lost their way later in the games. Brady's physical attributes also dragged his ratings down as coaches and teams wanted athletic quarterbacks. But Belichick saw the positive edge of the sword notwithstanding : the will, grit and determination, the mental aspects of the game and so on. The positive edge of the sword was instrumental in getting Brady drafted as a backup, not really expecting at first that Brady would be that great.

You can tell Brady was Hella determined and a tough kid. A lot of guys would have transferred, but he stuck it out. Michigan isn't an easy school to even start at. It's easy to become buried on the depth chart. Even to be buried on the depth chart at a big school isn't likely.
