I thought this song was about those 'Nice guys' who go around and act like they are so 'with the times and woke' and that they'll 'treat you right' and then when they get rejected they're all like "well you were ugly anyway" Hence the whole soft boy thing. Cuz their self worth and ego is so fragile that they gotta try their best to seem badass and better than everyone, when they have nothing going for them and break down so easily. At least thats what I got from the song, sorry if my explanation made no sense . But I do not think that Tom cardy was trying to call these men feminine or not real men. I think Tame Impala has some really great songs (though not consistently) but this just reminded me of when I was in theatre in high school, and the theatre kids all decided they liked Tame Impala at the same time.
