this was a funny discussion. It's a bit like me saying "from what I can gather, the poem 'hickory-dickory dock' appears to be about a mouse or something that seems have clambered up the side of a grandfather clock. By jove, it's almost like the clock strikes 'one' or something, perhaps; which causes the mouse or whatever to scurry back down the side of the clock. Profound."

My opinion is: although the little girl has grown up she still loves the art teacher in a platonic level, the same way as a child does. She's got a life, she's got a husband but the little child who is in love with the art teacher hasn't change..

"The Art Teacher" is a magnificent art song posing as a pop ballad. So much could be said about its lyrics and musical setting. But, man, am I sorry I listened to THIS dweeb rattle on! That's two minutes of my life I can never get back!

Um, no. It's about a gay man first realising he fancies other men, in this case the art teacher. And then he never finds that (unrequited?) love again but instead ends up living with some rich guy who happens to own the sort of art that the art teacher also loved. So you end up (we all end up?) with what is like your first love, but actually second best. Because the feeling can never be the same again.
