I told all my friends, after I bought Keane's second album, "under the iron sea" that he could fill in for Freddy!!!! They laughed at me! Years later I got to show them this and watch them eat their words!!! Even the band said they never heard Freddy perform it that well live!! The guy is Vocally Freddy reborn!!!

By coincidence I came across this performance, even though it was recorded more then 10 years ago. Brian May’s reaction at the end of this clip says it all: this was an excellent performance as a whole and everyone loved it, including the other musicians. Tom Chaplin did not try to copy Freddie, but made his own version of “It’s a hard life” and I think that he did an incredible job. Well done!

I am utterly gobsmacked! This was an amazing performance of what I have often thought was a very difficult song for anyone to sing - other than Freddie, of course. Tom knocked it out of the park! I have never seen this video before. It just suits him so well and his voice. Looks like a wee boy living out his dream, beaming from ear to ear, strutting about the stage like his hero!

In my opinion Tom Chaplin did a much better job on this song than Freddie did (live). Freddie never sang the high parts live, yet Chaplin sings the highest notes with ease. Anyways, I think we can all agree this is an amazing performance. Keane is amazing and of course so is Queen, great that they performed together.

Brian May was one of those (is?) geniuses who always approached it from the thinker's angle. Almost never hear a bunch of noise out of him. Pure notes and melodies. Yeah, I was very impressed with Tom's performance in this vid. He just walked out and nailed it from the first note. Takes some balls and skill to do that, I say.
