Last year, Marc Martel was touring with another Queen tribute band, Bohemian Rhapsody, and they played at our establishment. I had never seen Mr. Martell, though I knew a little bit about him, and his role in the movie _Bohemian Rhapsody._ Earlier in the day of the concert, I was working a security checkpoint for IDs, as entry was age restricted. Martel came through that checkpoint, wearing a T-shirt and a ballcap and jeans, and he looked very young. _Very_ young. I asked him for his ID. He said with amusement, "You want to see _my_ ID?" He smiled and handed it to me. As I reached out for his ID, I could see I had made a mistake, that he was older than 21. But I took it anyway, to satisfy my curiosity. As I'm taking the ID, I'm estimating his real age, and I'm thinking perhaps 25 years old, maybe; 30, maybe. Then I looked at the year. He was 44 years old! I blurted out, "Holy shit." Without ever looking at the name--I was too fascinated with his youthful appearance--I turned to the woman with whom I was working the checkpoint, to ask her to look at the ID, to see this for herself. But I didn't want to be rude and proceed without permission. I said back at Martel, "Would you mind if I show this to her?" He said, "No," and still amused. I said to my co-worker, "Hey, how old do you think this guy is?" She said, "I don't know. Twenty-five, maybe." I handed her the ID, "He's, like, 44." She, too, was in awe. I returned his ID to him, and congratulated him on his appearance. He replied, "If you'd have seen me without a ballcap, you would've seen how old I was. Later that night, the night of the show, I was working the green room. Who do I see coming down the hall, dressed for the show? Why, it was Marc Martel. I said, "Oh, it was you!" He laughed. I said, "Hey, you're not wearing a ballcap now, and you look the same." Overall, he was a pleasant, well-mannered person, and I've told this story many times, whenever he or Queen comes up. __________________________________________________________
