@@anujoseph_10 When he was young, Cruise briefly tried to break through into the high tier of acting with Born on the Fourth of July. That was pretty much it. Since then he's basically either Ethan Hunt or Evil Ethan Hunt. (Les Grossman, Frank TJ Mackey, Lestat, the guy from Collateral). He does a good job at Ethan Hunt but I think he's better at Ethan Hunt's evil twin. I enjoy his work, but let's not pretend he's Daniel Day-Lewis here.

The whole Tom Cruise "dont look him in the eye" thing was down to a street shoot where extras were told not to look at Cruise as the character was supposed to be a spy, not Tom Cruise. So they'd not be all 😲 in the background of the scene.

Hard to believe. Surely, extras would nearly always be told that. For every actor. More likely they wouldn't need to be told. Otherwise, in every movie, all the extras would be looking at the main actors, all the time. So yeah, your explanation doesn't seem accurate.

Let’s see, did War of the Worlds fit the pattern? Not really, but this fellow is right about most of Tom Cruise’s early films. In War of the Worlds, Cruise was a bad father, and was forced to become a better father by a global catastrophe. There isn’t much character growth in the Mission Impossible movies, but that’s OK because those movies are mainly about how crazy the stunts can get, and how intense the action scenes are. The Mission Impossible movies are pretty good in that regard.
