I got that feeling when I marched under Tom in 1980. Yes he wanted us to play cleanly and we did. Yes he liked hearing his creations played with energy and they were. But he seemed the happiest when everyone was simply sitting around and hanging out on breaks and at his apartment and just wherever. He used to take us on what he called a "nature walk" to break the tension I guess. During a break we would all follow Tom through the woods and he would stop and say something hilarious about something as simple as a pine cone or a tree or whatever. So we got to see the human side of the legend that was Tom Float. It was like he was one of the guys but he wasn't. He was Tom Float. Looking back on that after 42 years I get what he was doing. Back then I just thought he was funny. Now I see that he was not only a fun guy to drum for but a great motivator and a person who understood people. Thanks for what you did for us Tom and God rest your soul brother.

Great words from a cool doode. Scott, you have always been a class act. We all appreciate you more than you know. That hang, that day, will forever be in my heart and mind. I reconnected with some of my favorite people on this plant. It was all because of the life and spirit of Tom Float. Thanks for ALL the Hangs y'all. Rest in Luv Tom.

well said Scott - I was extremely lucky to have marched under both Tom and Scott in 1985 when I was 16-17 - so fortunate to be part of the hang! Thank you. RIP Tom Float - a truly amazing, funny, wonderful human being and top notch instructor, teacher and educator.

NOOOOOOO float passed away..😪 that really just hurt my soul...he was my instructor st vk..honestly if it weren't for him and Chris the marching instructor I'd be a statistic in these streets. Float was one of the real OG'S May he forever be in the arms of Jesus

I feel like I was born under a lucky star to have met and played with so many of the great teachers that you mentioned. From high school drumline with the Davalas, to meeting you, doing clinics with Ralph and Thom… and finally getting to learn from Float and Rennick and Prosperie at UNT in the early 90s… Feel blessed to have had the chance to hang with the greats.

I remember BD let me cook in 87 which started a 30 year career and we did a clinic in San Antonio. After Tom took us walking about and kept asking people "Yo Man Where's Jaws?" Finally we went to a smelly but famous movie theater and watched Jaws 4. That was a HANG! RIP yo
