Starting from the Tom Groggin Camp Ground, a quick trip to the Murray River Crossing before heading up the familiar Mt Pinnibar Track.
A track warning from Parks Vic recommending we take a detour via Mt Hope Rd was the first indication of what was to be ahead of us. We pressed on regardless, confident we could tackle any obstacle.
The Katana Silky Boy saw saw some action removing a tree from our path as did the winches on both vehicles before we got to enjoy that magic view from the top of Mt Pinnibar.

I’ve just come across this video randomly, completely forgot about this but that was my group checking the river before you guys showed up, I was the hilux. Was worried for my mates little sierra, light car and no snorkel isn’t a great recipe for rivers hahaha

Just tried this track this week. Im passable atm in our standard ifs 100 series. Hoping they can put a machine through there after winter. Watched a variety of vehicles punish through this section. A lifted and locked GU did it no problem. Watched a new defender scream in mechanical pain do it with much difficulty. One bloke turned up in a 200 series with a caravan. Hope he went ok.

Wow taking a van up there is eager. Saw a recent video from Pat Calinan where they got into some trouble. What I hear is parks is really struggling for funding to remediate tracks. Sometimes turning around is the only sensible course!

You say it never gets old up there, that's how I feel about The Watagans. I love the place. So far looks like some fun and not too difficult driving. Liking the looks of the shirt too mate, don't think I have seen them before. Looking at where you winched I would of thought the same as you and just given it a little power but obviously slippery. Very fun interesting drive mate, would be a great run.

Hey Mick yeah definitely, I've done Pinnibar many times never been like this. Never had to winch before. Looking forward to when you come to visit the VIC HC mate.

Great footage. We've always wanted to visit the VHC but living in Sydney, needing the dog minded etc, it's a little tough getting there. We did have a long weekend in Canberra last October and had a day trip down to Tom Groggin (the closest I've gotten to the VHC since a motorbike ride through Omeo years ago). The Murray was cranking from the snow melt and the seasonal closure of the crossing in force. We still had one of our best days out exploring down the Snowy. An absolutely gorgeous part of Aus.

It's an amazing part of the country. I'm loving living so close to it being based in Albury. You're dead right though, any part of it and whether the trip goes exactly as planned or not, any day out is a good day generally!

You mention tyre pressures... I recon a couple more PSI down and you would have walked up those places you winched. Putting that aside, stunning scenery and love the tracks, a brilliant video, loved watching every second. Thank you! ☺️

Great vid , love your work . I did it two weeks ago after a night with a bit of rain , thank god for new muddies and twin locked . I took the left line where you and Matt dropped in the rut and got straight up .

Top effort. That's the thing isn't, different lines can make all the difference, after Matt got stuck I was tossing trying to go left or further right, opted for further right.... well we know how that went :-)

Great story telling Jason! And good endorsement for the silky katanaboy! I have the little gomboy, mostly for firewood- packs up nice and small. Was thinking of a small electric chainsaw in the future..but maybe the katanaboy is a simpler solution. Less fuel needed too😅Maybe more sweat though!! you guys stayed calm and collected in those 2 tricky sections, really well done. Love the view on the drive up to the peak as it opens up, classic high country, just stunning.

Fair effort with the Silky Katana Boy… that’s why I always have me chainsaw with me !! 😂😂 I have my episode of Mt Pinnibar dropping next weekend from start of Feb. Wish I had of seen this first… would have been a good heads up of what to expect. 👍🏼😂

@@OffTheBeatenPathAus Thanks, much appreciated. I have been experimenting with different pressures on my Paj. Running stock size 265/65/17 Toyo ATs. As I often tow a camper with 200kg ball weight I run the following. Highway 34 front 44 rear, dirt roads 25 front 35 rear. Without trailer Highway 32 front 35 rear, dirt 25 front 28 rear, tougher tracks offroad, front and rear both 18s. Sand even lower as required. I have found with towing that if I don't run high enough pressure rear tyres scallop very quickly.
@OffTheBeatenPathAus

@@philiplange428 Yeah they would, I find the same with 18" factory rims, not that much sidewall. The only time I drop below 20 is on sand.

@@OffTheBeatenPathAus I am very glad that mine, a base model 5 seat manual trans 2014, came with 17" inch steel rims. Gives that bit of extra sidewall height and they are not much heavier than most alloy rims.
