You see how at the last second Tom Hanks waves to the crowd and salutes. I was stationed in so cal at the time and a bunch of us Marines were in the audience. He was saluting at us it was an amazing night. I got to meet a lot of the actors after the show in the lobby of the Kodak Theatre. Thanks for posting this!

I was born 73, but since I watch tv... I saw him in bossom buddies... and then it starts: but in over my 45 yrs of life, I have grown to love him more and more... He shows true patriotism. He loves his America, college degree in history and a BIG SUPPORTER of our Miliatry. He loves his family, true to GOD. One of the very few actors that I have heard that YOU DON'T HEAR drama... He represents as a true american, not being military. He shows his love for the movies, can say he has acted in all types, , but outside of the movie, and great citizen. A regular human being, GOD , Family, America... HOW CAN ANY1 SAY anything negative about him. This is what Hollywood should act like. Now, everyone makes mistakes, but they don't advertise it. His acting has come so far from his first rolls. I remember watching him in the TV sitcom Bussom Buddies. Then the movie Bachelor Party. How his talent has changed and been refined and sharpened to a razors edge that cuts to your soul and makes you feel the pain of life. Such as Saving Private Ryan and The Road to Perdition. So few actors in today's Hollywood can make an audience laugh, cry, feel remorse and anger. Take you through and emotional rollercoaster in just a few hours. I look forward to more of Tom Hanks movies.

I've seen almost all AFI award movies, and this one not only shows a very "down to earth" guy in the spotlight, but also a very loving family. Tom Hanks has to be the most happy person in the world. He has a job he loves and he's great at, he loves his family and they love him. What I like about him is that not only on camera, but also "off camera", he is what you see: a very likeable person, sincere and honoust. He soesn't have another agenda, which I can spot with some other artists.

Tom Hanks had a better AFI Life Acheivement speech than many of the other recipients. His speech does more than just thanking his friends and mentors. He talks about the nature of film and how powerful cinema can be. If anything, Tom Hanks is a great speechwriter

The reason why America loves Tom Hanks is because he really is an every man actor, who became the biggest in the world, THROUGH his own talent. Started off as just a comedic actor, it was not until WELL into his career before he ever had a serious dramatic role. In the 90's he started winning Oscars, but then and now he never takes himself too seriously still goes back to stuff like Toy Story etc, never a stereotypical suave and handsome leading man, by no means a sex symbol, but perhaps the most popular and greatest actor of the last 30 years. In many ways the Cary Grant of his time, minus the looks but plus the relatablity. We love him because we are him. His talent is bar none. In many ways, like Marlon Brando, or Charlie Chapman, or even more recently Johnny Depp, No one can enter a scene or be a leading man the same way Tom Hanks has and did, and no one ever will.
