I say this all the time, I don't believe in calling anything the "best" for one simple reason. When something comes to an end, you can rate and decide the best. But, when the arts have existed since before Shakespeare and Mozart and Van Gogh, they will never end. So, while this can be one of the best, it can never be the best. Some say Babe Ruth was the best. I say Willie Mays was the best. However, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire can never be the best and we all know why. I add this because I will always remember Sir Lawrence Olivier being presented an Academy Award for lifetime achievement and his speech is something I can remember today as mindblowing. Not the best but close. I believe it was 1979. Check it out.

It's wonderful that Sean salutes the writing; the books, the plays, and the scripts. Without these, there would be no plays, movies, or TV shows. When accepting awards, too many actors ignore writers and salute the directors as though they are the true geniuses in the productions. Directors INTERPRET from the writing, just like actors do. In fact , virtually every major player - cinematographer, art director, special effects supervisor, sound effects men - read the script so they know what they have to produce.

That's spot on. The now, late, great Sean Connery was the quintessential James Bond. He brought his all, to the character, and made it iconic. But, it also helped that they were so well written, inspired adaptations of the great Ian Fleming's work. Pierce Brosnon, I think, was very suitable to the role. But, unlike Connery, didn't seem to have the benefit of good writing. This is a prime example of the essential importance of sound writing, in film. It is, so key.

What I love about this special man is that he sure is an alpha male here, there's no denying it. But he's a NATURAL and DESERVED alpha, no arrogant, overcompensating a**hole desperately trying to prove anything to anyone. Quite the contrary! Sir Sean Connery was 1000% a self-made man who came from very, very little and became an icon through nothing but his hard work, diligence, dedication (though never obsession), eloquence and cleverness (though no snobbishness), always the right combination of toughness, kindness and coolness, charisma, intelligent humor, charity, integrity and quite simply authenticity! The man was so authentic and multi-faceted, that his masculinity didn't feel toxic or over the top, at least not when he was getting older + more mature. - And this is coming from a 28-year-old feminist (that's right! Feminism is about empowering women, not emasculating men)!

I watch this now and then. Such poise and eloquence this smart gentleman had. I'm saddened by this loss as a friend would be. Rest in peace, sir Sean. Say hi to my dad who was the biggest fan and made me one. Your movies will always be a dear reminder.🖤

What an amazing, heartfelt speech by an amazing man. Connery is, in every sense of the word, a true gentleman and lives that in everything he does.May God bless you even more than He already has, Mr. Connery, and my heartfelt congratulations on an outstanding career.

I was working at a restaurant. Sir Connery was eating dinner. I walked past his table. He was wearing a cashmere robins egg sweater. I ran my hands over his back. He looked shocked and back at me. I shrugged and said I just couldn’t help myself, sir. He replied ‘Of course, you couldn’t and winked. I can still feel those muscles and the cashmere. Top ten moments of my life!!!

I agree it is a fantastic speech. I also know that he is quoting his book when he refers to his big break and childhood, I am reading it currently and I recommend it.

I am happy to say that I was able to read all of Ian Fleming works at the age of 6 because my uncle had them on his book shelf. There is only one James Bond and that is Sean Connery.
