I love this video! Back in the late 80s early 90s I rebuilt the 283 in my 57 belair. Double hump heads with stainless valves and flat top pistons. Probably only 9:1 compression but with the old Cam Dynamics 230/495 cam and a th350 and a 4500 converter it was good for 12.90s with a 3.73 axle. Was a blast to drive. Love this!

Double hump heads with the 1:96 intake valves because the 2:02 were too big for the cylinders , but they had 58cc chambers , those little 283 blocks will scream to the moon , I got 3 of them only mine has 11 inch clutch , Lakewood Blow Proof bell housing and M-21 Muncie 4 speed trans behind them .

@@jimthomas1989. Actually, 2.02" valves clear the 283 bore just fine. There is a bit of "bore shrouding" (flow) but it isn't real bad. A 2.02" valve will hit the SIDE of a .030" over 283 cylinder at about .740" lift, so no worries short of that!

@countingsheeple24283 жыл бұрын
@@yamahaguy1732 Not really...but people do say that. Back in the day, people put some doggish 283s in heavy vehicles with high gears and crummy transmissions, and then blamed it on the engine. You can get the same cackle & response out of a 283 the same as a 426. It's just math, and people aren't good at math. A v8 is a v8, of course displacement varies. But displacement is just that...displacement. With the right cam, heads, porting, gears, and weight, etc, etc, you can make a 283 as snappy as a 383, 483 or 183ci v8. That being said, it doesn't mean it will be as powerful or as fast as a 426, that's not what I'm saying... After that, it's all about weight and aerodynamics..and of course the driver.
