The producers of Godzilla re-imagine the origins of one the most powerful monster myths of all in "Kong: Skull Island." This compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts ("The Kings of Summer") tells the story of a diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers uniting to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong. The film stars Golden Globe-winner Tom Hiddleston, Oscar-nominee Samuel L. Jackson and Oscar-winner Brie Larson. Interview at 692 Broadway in NYC for BUILD Series.

Sadly the interviewer didn't get all guests talking. It's fun watching a bit of Sam and Brie banter but I was also interested in Tom's thoughts on this film.

Exactly, for example look at the last question - Tom clearly wanted to answer it too, but the interviewer didn't give him the chance. On the other hand though, Tom is clearly a talkative person in general, so he often monopolizes the interviews he's in, so maybe I shouldn't mind the fact that this one time he didn't get that much talk time? ;) But still I agree with you, I wanted to hear more from him, especially that it's obvious that he tried to say some more things, but he couldn't get past the other two.

The moment at around 13:00 when Brie talks about that this blockbuster movie also has a meaning (like indie films do) made me look confused. But in the end it's all a show, an illusion, playing pretend, doing what is necessary and whoever is interested listens and who is not, doesn't care. There is no deep massage in this movie. I'm deeply impressed how Brie shot the movie while flying around the world for her award shows and to promote Room. That's committment. But maybe that is what Brie wanted. She had auditioned thousands of times for only small insignificant roles and going into an audition is not fun. Now she had a busy schedule for a couple of months.

To be honest there aren't too many surprises, but its nice that the movie doesn't have the exact King Kong formula. It's giant monster movie that has very little pretenses. It isn't trying too hard to be something of more substance like Godzilla 2014, and it has the silly fun tone that a movie of this kind should have, while also giving a lot of believability to the creatures and some nice characterization to Kong. He's powerful, and defensive of his territory, he's just an animal, but he's not stupid and they make him somewhat sympathetic too. Kong and Godzilla in these last two installments are presented like most of the dinosaurs in the first Jurassic Park. They treat them like actual animals and not just like monsters. As for the humans, I feel they were handled better than Godzilla. Godzilla had an amazing human character who I was totally invested in and cared about, and they whipped him out from underneath us. In Kong the two leads are completely interchangeable, like Godzilla, but John C. Reily and Sam Jackson actually have some investment in what's going on and character arcs. Some of the supporting cast isn't half bad with Corey Hawkins, Shea Wingham and Thomas Mann giving some quirks and personalities to characters that would have otherwise been bland. Overall I enjoyed it a lot more than Godzilla 2014. I didn't mean for this to turn into a review of this movie, but there you go Isaac Zaladar. BTW a movie will still make a ton of money if it sucks, Warner Bros. should know that with the financial success of Suicide Squad and BvS. Overall about a high 6 low 7 out of 10 movie, but a 9 out of 10 movie going experience. It isn't too long, and works as a fun popcorn movie because it knows it is, even if there is some actual filmmaking in there, but that just contributes and kind of lifts it up, whereas I think something like Jurassic World, which is aiming for a similar thing, is let down by the very boring and bland direction, also the characters in that movie are actively obnoxious and unlikeable, unlike in Kong where the worst case scenario is that they're just there. Also it isn't a 3 and a half hour-long slog like the Peter Jackson one, but it isn't a beloved groundbreaking classic like the original. It is what it is and I don't feel bad for enjoying it.

Who cares? I bet there are 100 interviews that ask that exact question to Tom Hiddleston. But how many interviews are that long where Sam is on fire and is tellling great stories that have nothing to do with the actual movie and that are super entertaining and funny? That's the best thing that can happen to an interview. Most interviews do repeat the same questions over and over again.

It's interesting to hear that Brie had to audition 3 times for her role. Also interesting that three huge MCU actors were put into that movie. I was more under the impression that it was deliberate but I'm not sure. I cannot exactly recreate the timeline. All I know is that Brie shot her Oscar and other award winning movie "Room" in late 2014 I think, it was released in 2015, she won her Oscar in February 2016. And she shot "Kong: Skull Island" like from October 2015-March 2016. That would be the 6 month that were mentioned in this interview. But in ~June of 2016, Brie was finally confirmed as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel at the San Diego Comic Con, when she had rejected the role twice because of fear of everything that comes with such a huge role. Although Sam talks about "she's in for the paycheck" and Brie answers for herself as "I had to audition three times", of course that is the case. But shooting for 6 month in the jungle isn't necessarily a dream come true. I am not a fan of monster movies, watched it for Brie of course. At the end of the day actors have to survive. Brie especially got both lucky and unlucky during her acting career. Only a few roles. Or to put it differently: She got what the majority of actors get. Only a few percent get their break through. She was happy to play something "fun" or superfiial instead of heavy depressive drama like in "Room". And she got a big paycheck, the girl who end of 2012 (when she was almost 22) had gotten, I forgot, like only a couple of hundred dollars for shooting the role in "Short Term 12". Who was about to give up and who never had gotten leading roles until then. Brave, strong girl, love her so much, she's amazing and so tough and smart and funny and beautiful and talented. ❤

I don't think she sucks, at least not all the time, but she can be very grating as a person. I think David O. Russel and the Weinsteins got to her head. Looking at people like Brie Larson, Lin Manuel Miranda, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega it feels nice to see some people experiencing huge fame, who can still stay humble and not be assholes, and I pray that they stay like that. The Rock is pretty much the gold standard of not letting fame get to your head over the years.

I like this interview. For weird reasons or thanks to Samuel L. Jackson, he just takes a detour and talks about how not Pulp Fiction but Die Hard made him famous and that Brie is now about to become well known, because she draws people into cinema. And Brie replies, she wants to stay in her bubble. I'm a bit confused if this is all spontaneous or not. But it could totally be because while shooting the movie, the actors won't care much about how well the movie will be doing and so on. And when the shooting is done, they go seperate ways. Yet I wonder why Brie didn't communicate with Sam about what becoming famous will change in her life etc. "I'm trying to stay in my bubble." Brie is now that King Kong woman. Fortunately, Brie is now known as Captain Marvel. Love the interview, I'm 1000% with Tom Hiddleston when he says like "love this conversation, best thing, let's continue". Yeah, because how boring are most interviews? If they talk 30 minutes about the movie, how lame. Now they tell funny exciting stories, laugh and THAT is what makes people I think interested in watching whatever project they are promoting because these are likeable people, I want to watch them in a movie together.

I was a little let down by her performance in the movie, but I don't blame her at all, she tried the best she could with a nothing character and every once and a while was somewhat charming and likable, because it's really hard to make Brie Larson, well... not those things all the time, no matter how hard you try. I still think she's great in general and I think Free Fire will let her shine a lot more than this movie did. Still if you can describe any certifiable difference between her character and the Tom Hiddleston aside from the fucking genitals, I'll.. I don't know, just say your piece.

I would love to see Brie making film with men of her age like Nicholas Hoult or Aaron Taylor Johnson not with men like 9 or 10 years her senior

The Difference is Sam (Between Pulp Fiction and Diehard Whatever)!! People remember Pulp Fiction (and you in it). However, no one cares about Diehard Whatever!! Nonetheless, I'm sure you got paid well for it. But you know Pulp Fiction will enhance your legacy.

brie larson is sweet girl.. when marvel try to make brie larson a strong female character in MCU it also effect her in real life.. honestly it doenst suit her. it turn to uncharismatic cold blood character.. her performance in kong island and indian romantic movie (forgot the name) is good tho

It's sad people like you felt that Captain Marvel movie made stronger a little bit more flavor did something to change her point of view and you want to tear that down and destroy it because you're an entitled selfish person who doesn't think about others. You guys come up with stupid freaking Rumors by the fact that she said some pretty amazing things for her to costars who passed away and you think it's not sincere enough it is inappropriate. How self-centered are you what kind of person that will go in and Bully somebody they never met

Wow, when Brie Larson isn’t making her interviews about politics and how great a front she’s gonna be, she’s actually a pleasant person. God I wish it was 2016 again :/

Don't worry. Most of the time Brie is doing "normal" interviews and she's super lovely in the. Especially when she can play games or dance or draw stuff like that in talk shows. That woman is full of wonder and marvel. ❤

Brie can be cute but she and Sam just highjacked this interview. They are funny though. Sam is smug and full of himself. Just because he's been in a lot of movies, doesn't give him the right to act as though he's better than anyone else. To me, he's always the same as any character. The interviewer is usually good but he didn't keep this on an even keel.

That's the interviewers fault. It was his job to guide the topics but he turned this into his opinion of movies.

Sally Dillon a) He is better than most people b) He's actually saving the interview from turning into a generic mock serious thing c) Both Brie and Tom sense that and play along well
