This duel scene is the closest to a Western film, where the good guy, and the bad guy are faced each other. After seeing this film, Robert's performance amazed me as much as Tom's performance, at the end two of them did a really good job, which didn't disappoint at all.

Being a priest doesn't make you corrupt or evil. Think of any institution on planet earth that hasn't been corrupted. You'll find that all have been. So what's the real problem? Us. People. We are easily corruptible in some ways, no matter what occupation or lifestyle.
