This is the first Robert Pattinson scene from the movie. Watch as Reverend Preston Teagardin arrives in town as the new preacher. He sees the chicken livers which Arvin's grandmother Emma has bought for the congregation, grotesquely dipping his fingers into the brown juice on the plate and inserting them into his mouth, before totally insulting her.

The way I understand this scene is that the preacher lied to the congregation about how the dish tasted like so he could have all of it for himself. The narrator implied that he liked it when he first tasted it. In the next scene where Arvin was with his grandmother in their car, he told her that he noticed the preacher gobbling up the dish without sharing it to the congregation.

My interpretation is that Teagardin is narcissistic, manipulative, and above all: deeply hedonistic. This man takes what he wants, when he wants it, shamelessly. He gets high on the fact that a room full of people look up to him and want to please him. This scene like several others in the film represents his selfishness - he wanted the chicken livers all to himself, funny that they are the greasiest and heaviest food on the table because they represent his gluttonous, predatory nature....the way he sticks his finger straight into the grease of the chicken livers, and the way he drops down the rest of his plate just to take the chicken livers all for himself. but of course he would NEVER admit (not even to himself) that that is his real intention is to take it all for himself because after all, he's a narcissist and really does believe everything he preaches. The guy genuinely believes he's doing a great favor to god and these people, out of the goodness of his heart he's taking the cheap (and delicious) dish all for himself. Lol. His garishness and the way he talks down to people, including his predatory behaviour/gaslighting Lenora and the other young girls throughout the film to get what he wants.. When Arvin confronts him is the most interesting scene in the film because we see what happens when a man like this is confronted - even in the end, he refuses to acknowledge his sick, immoral behavior. Its all Lenora's fault because a delusional narcissist would NEVER admit any fault. what a slimy, creepy, gloriously gluttonous character... fantastically despicable and the worst type of person ever to be a preacher. lol! bravo! loved this movie so much.

Holy shit!!! His accent is hella good! I was not expecting that. Like, I’ve always thought that he was a good actor and I was really excited when I heard he was chosen as the new Batman and when is saw that trailer, I thought that he was going to bring, definitely a new perspective to Bruce Wayne and it really sucks that people bash him for twilight but damn! @@BopaBola It´s all because of Heath Ledger, he took the role to another level and showed us what the world is really like but we are to afraid to say out loud. Heaths adaptation is scary in many sense because he explained where society is going, and people are drawn to the truth and evil in some sense, the same thing happend with Javier Bardems charachter in No country for old men. Its dangerous because people nowadays are being influenced to easy. Most people who doesn´t like or understand The Joker is people who cant relate to what he is saying, because they lived in other peoples eyes, easy lives. I dont agree with that tho, life is difficult for most people just in different ways, The Joker charachter is often drawn to people who are lonely and feels like society has given up on them.

Would you consider yourself to be a good person? How many lies have you told, and what do you call someone who lies? Have you ever stolen something, no matter how small, and what do you call someone who steals? Have you ever taken God's name in vain/blasphemed, even ‘OMG’? That’s taking the name of the God who gave you life and using it in the place of a cuss word - would you do that with your mother’s name? Have you ever dishonoured your parents? Jesus said whoever looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery in his heart. Have you ever looked with lust? Most people probably have broken all 5 of these commandments. I myself have. I’m not judging you but if you have done these things then you’re a lying, thieving, blasphemous, rebellious adulterer-at-heart by your own admission. That's only 5 of the 10 commandments. God is fully just so he must and will punish every and all sin (which is departure from/rebellion towards God and the conscience) when he judges us. He cannot simply cancel our debt and let us go, or else he would be unjust. If you went into the courtroom and said: ‘Yes Judge, I’ve done these things but I also give money to the Red Cross and volunteer at an old-age home. I try my best to love people’ the judge is not going to take that into consideration. You’ve broken the law; the good you’ve done won’t help at all on the day of judgement. If he judges you by the moral law will you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? The answer is Hell. Doesn’t that concern you? But, fortunately, that is not God’s will. He is so loving and merciful, he made a way for you to be forgiven. The Son of God came down as a man, Jesus Christ, and lived a perfect, sinless life, so was the perfect sacrifice. He excruciatingly suffered and died on the cross to pay the FULL debt we owe because of sin; justice is fully done. You and I broke God's law and Jesus paid the fine in his life's blood, being resurrected again 3 days later. That’s why he said “It is finished” on the cross - in other words the debt has been paid. God has the payment ready to go for you. What you need to do is repent (recognising you are a sinner deserving God's punishment, turn to Him) and trust ALONE in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins. Our works can do nothing as by the standard of God’s moral law we fail, but faith in him is enough to save us from all sin - past, present and future! Then though you have grievously offended God, he will forgive you and you will inherit eternal life being reborn in the Holy Spirit when you put your trust in the Lord and saviour. Too, you enter a covenant relationship with God - sonship, and truly I tell you your life will change in his presence. So repent and trust (i.e. Biblical faith), receive the free gift of grace. He redeemed me. God, The King of The Universe, came down as a man. He lived the first 30 years of his life as a poor carpenter then spent the next 3 preaching, healing and saving souls - all the while being persecuted, insulted and hated by his own people - and took the punishment to save our lives. It’s the most amazing love that anyone ever displayed. Christianity’s not just a religion. It's a pure, sweet relationship with God. Because of Jesus, I am now a son of God. He is my dad, and you can be his child too. God loves you. Will you let him come?. . .. . .. . .

Never thought it’d feel so natural to hear robert pattinson talk in a southern american accent. He really owns this role!

@@calketis4994 it's ok cal, I wasn't sure if he was complimenting her or trying to be mean but in a godly way. Although the moral of the story, we all fighting our demons but try to call out those who seems to be worse when were all in the same boat

Yeah that’s pretty stupid then if you can’t understand anything of the movie... pretty straight forward

Nah what this scene is is the reverend basically lying to the church about disliking the chicken livers (and the plate they came on), pitying Arvin and his family and implying to the church that the food is horrible and they shouldn't eat it. He's narcissistic so he's acting as though he's making a sacrifice for the church by eating this horrible food - in reality, he thinks they're delicious and is selfishly keeping the dish to himself.

@@aphextriplet6850 As well as making backhanded remarks about the food and how it's burnt, and remarks about how poor that family must be who brought it. Insulting Arvin's family (specifically his grandmother) and then keeping all the chicken liver for himself like a pig.

I liked how Arvin was quick to notice that there was something off about Preston Teagardin after he made fun of those chicken livers.

Before to see The devil all the time, I have never seen a Robert Pattinson's film nevertheless, his performance in this movie amazed me as much as the whole cast. On the other hand, I've got a feeling it must have been a privilege for Tom Holland working with Robert, in fact, they both play superheros.

Thank you to the people explaining what's going on in this scene. I was so confused as to what was happening and why they were so upset. I guess i've never been in this type of situation before, where somebody double speaks like that for such a purpose.

This guy puts both purity and corruption into one character way too perfectly well.
