Only "big Ben" is the name of the largest bell, not the tower itself, which was called St. Stephen's Tower until recently renamed Elizabeth Tower to honour Queen Elizabeth II. The error is so common that most don't bother making the correction. Just as the "s" in "expertise" is no longer being correctly pronounced as a "z'" (due to its French etymology) but as an English "s". These things matter to nerds like me. By the way, the pitch of "big Ben" is slighly off-key due to a crack. You can learn a lot from documentaries. Just remember that you can see Elizabeth Tower and hear "big Ben."
