The thumbnail with black lines over Tom & Jerry's eyes and the words saying "this is not Tom & Jerry" make me think of some sort of Tom & Jerry analog horror.

To me, the lack of Tom and Jerry typical humor here is akin to how the Muppets take their literary based movies seriously. They're really acting in their telling of the nutcracker like how Kermit was Bob Cratchit. That's just my interpretation though, I like this movie a lot and have thought on it a good amount.

Yeah, those Tom and Jerry movies were weird to say the least. Some of them were good like the Sherlock Homes and Robin Hood ones while others were just on the level of " Why does this even exist?!"

Still better than the Willy Wonka meets Tom & Jerry film.

The nutcracker definitely needed more slapstick

1. If you released this review tomorrow, it would've unintentionally been a good way to honor Tom And Jerry co-creator Joseph Barbera. He died on December 18, 2006 at the age of 95, and this was the last project he worked on before his death. 2. Spike Brandt definitely seemed to be heavily involved here given how he's one of the directors, writers, producers, and the sole storyboard artist. He and his directing partner Tony Cervone worked together on Tom And Jerry Tales, and would later direct almost all of the 2010s Tom And Jerry DVD movies. The complaints you have with this movie echo that complaints towards that movie in how they're more Tom And Jerry movies in name only.

1:40: _All_ the worlds are stages, Drawpinion. I'm disappointed that we didn't get a proper Rat King Jerry situation. If this movie committed to the bit, we might get to see a fun inversion of the normal Tom & Jerry dynamic; Tom tries to help Clara and/or the Nutcracker, but he has to outwit the overwhelming might of King Jerry's army the way Jerry normally has to outwit Tom. But I guess that doesn't happen.

I'm surprised that Jerry likes 'The Nutcracker,' considering that the ballet & fairy-tale villainizes his kind. Sure cats love to destroy trees & get into boxes, but mice & rats are much worse, especially since the story took place during an infamous plague (caused by the fleas they carried).
@tiberiusfemur374Ай бұрын
What I find interesting is that, after the Cat King takes over, the town becomes populated with cat citizens that cheer thier soliders on.

i was waiting for this one! this was probably the first nutcracker adaptation i ever watched as a kid, and i absolutely adored it, to the point where i now watch it every december. it's definitely rough around the edges but it's become a bit of a guilty pleasure for me LOL im really happy to see you go over it!! :D

Like The Nutcracker D3, I saw this adaptation several times when I was little, but I still like this one and have a certain affection for it :').

Reading the thumbnail unlocked a lot of memories with this film. I remember having a CD of this. And also seeing this air on Cartoon Network on Christmas, the adults are busy cooking, while me and my cousins are playing as the movie was running in the background 😂 and when my favorite scenes happens, I would stop playing and start yelling at my cousins to shut up so I can watch peacefully

I really liked watching this movie when they'd air it on tv. Interestingly, I had the opposite reaction when I first watched it. Some of the other 2000s movies felt more like "Hey here's these characters and this is there story. Oh and Tom and Jerry are chasing each other in the background I guess." So it was nice to see the movie actually follow Jerry(at least) as an actual protagonist.

I haven't watched any of the other modern Tom & Jerry movies, and people say this Nutcracker one is one of the best ones... Maybe it's all a matter of perspective!

ah, ive been meaning to check this one out! ive seen other reviews of it (i generally dont care about being spoiled, as spoilers tend to make me excited) but not the film itself. and those other reviews i watched tended to say this was film was one of new-Tom & Jerry's better works, so your take was a surprise to me to hear differ from others! i respect it tho, 100%, it's not like ive seen it yet, so fuck yeah, critique it! from what ive seen of reviewers, i also tended to really like the world. the reveal of who "the toymaker" is, i found clever; i like how Paulie is basically Elf on The Shelf, and i love how they really upped him and Nelly's bodies work as you mentioned as it wouldve been much easier not to do that and just have them be average toys with no gimmicks or fragility (i wish they did something similar with the ballerina-toy); and i enjoyed the clips ive seen of how they implemented the music! but also, yeah, i totally see your point. the clips ive seen always made me hiss in sympathy at the "slapstick" rather than snort and laugh, now that i think about it. the "slapstick" just felt painful, for some reason, to me at least my other big complaint could be due to ny lack of having seen the movie yet, but i dont like the framing a lot either? the Nutcracker inclusion begins and ends with the ballet at the beginning, from the reviews i have seen. i miss Clara. i miss Drosselmeyer (i wish there was a way for him and the toymaker to be involved together, considering Drosselmeyer has made toys for the Christmas party in other versions). and i dont know who here is supposed to be the Nutcracker; if it if meant to be Jerry, i wish they made his design more nutcracker-like, even just a couple lines down the mouth to imply the nutcracker-jaw. also, people have kept calling the magical girl "the ballerina doll" and i dont see why she couldn't be the Sugarplum Fairy; you can have her "not actually be able to fly" with a joke about plastic wings, if that was what was stopping someone. she's Tinkerbell height. it feels like a missed oppurtunity. like, you could have retitled the movie "Tom & Jerry In Toyland" with the lack of Nutcracker i am hearing having gone on past the initial ballet (and soundtrack). hopefully, once i see it, i will see more connections and realize i was wrong about this bit! i did like what they did with the inversion of Jerry as the Mouse King being good, with the Cat King being bad, that was a fun intertextual reference to tie this movie into the Nutcracker overall, thanks so much for the tip to temper my expectations when i watch this! it is much appreciated!! great video yet again, cant wait to see what you watch next!

You're totally right, there's a lot of "nutcracker" missing in this movie. Jerry is just a generic toyland christmas mouse...

I was hoping you would do this one! It used to be a Christmas classic for me. As an actor I really gravitated to the theatre aspect, I suppose. I still liked it, but it’s true that it doesn’t really feel like Tom & Jerry.

Huh, that's interesting. I kept avoiding this movie mainly because I grew tired of Tom&Jerry in general, but I'm surprised to hear that it's not like their usual shenanigans, especially when I heard a lot of praises for this one. Hm, I guess I'll have to watch it myself to see how it actually is after all 🤔
@LGsBarbieGirl41112 күн бұрын
Yeah, this is more of a "Jerry and friends follow the Star of Bethlehem to their creator's doorstep" with vague Nutcracker dressing than a true adaptation of either medium. It felt more than a bit disjointed to me, but I suppose I did enjoy some of the gags where they crashed through the set to jump between scenes. It just left me wanting so much more.
