Tom Jones' interpretation of lyrics is one of his strong points which I enjoy and admire..from the ❤️ heart. He appears to have experienced some of the hardship of that era and delivers in this rendition. Long live this legendary Great singer!💞

George Michael has a different version too. It doesn't touch Sir Tom's but its pretty good.

Just watched a young George Michael talking about when a kid and growing up, the first records his parents gave him were 2 Supremes and Tom Jones singing Delilah He said that's why I've turned out like a cross between the Supremes and Tom...lol

You know... I'm a big fan of TJ... but I get no sense that he actually has any idea what this tune is about... His voice is great as always, but the song just seems to be a curtain rod for him to hang his vocal chops on... and the Vegas-y lounge-lizard arrangement doesn't really help, either. (I had a similar problem with Judy Collins' bossa nova version of this tune.) If you all really want to hear it sung by singers that understand the meaning of it, check out Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, Mandy Patinkin, and (I can't believe I'm saying this, but he nails it, so I am) Rudy Vallee.

A young Tom Jones toiled on a building site as a Brickie's labourer carrying a shoulder hod packed with house building bricks up a ladder or multiple ladders to the waiting Brickie. When asked what made him decide to try singing for a living, he replied - when i felt the weight of a hod full of bricks... Jones would have been paid peanuts for this backbreaking, soul destroying job and can call on that experience whilst singing this song...
