I am reading Hurricane Season rn, almost finished... it is awesome, the anger in this one is really palpable... I really loved the part where they were driving away from the scene at night and the description of the lightening was amazing. Oh, also, have you read The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store? I highly recommend that one it is AMAZING.

I love that you’re enjoying Hurricane Season! It’s not an easy read but it’s so worth it! Also, I haven’t read The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store yet. I am number 5 on the waitlist at my library. I have heard such great things and I can’t wait to read it.

Just read this and loved it! The relationships in this story, especially Lara and the daughters, felt so special and realistic. This was my first Ann Patchett book and I’m looking forward to reading more!

Hi Gretchen. Thank you for the great review. This was a relaxing book. Each character was interesting and the relationships were meaningful and touching. At first I didn’t like the audio, but that was because of my own expectations, which were wrong. After I let those expectations go, I could appreciate how natural it sounded. It lulled me to sleep sometimes when I listened before bed. 🌸

Commonwealth is a family story, so if you want something different try Bel Canto. That’s my 2cents :)

I love all her books. This one started out very slowly and I felt lukewarm about it. However it gained strength as it goes forward and ended very beautifully. The Dutch House is actually my least favorite of her novels. Bel Canto, State of Wonder and Commonwealth are better books. However all her books, novels, essays and memoirs are all worth reading. Truth and Beauty is a masterpiece and so heartbreaking

It is definitely not the focus. The one daughter is very passionate about it, but I don’t think it distracts from the primary story.
