Its so difficult to battle your demons. And like he showed in his third verse, as an artist you sometimes have to work with your demons to push your craft and put the emotion and connection in your work. Think of Van Gogh, Beethoven, Georgia O'Keefe, Sylvia Plath.....the list of artist with mental illness goes on and on. But their demons and emotion bled into their work and helped cement them as legendary artists. Finding that balance between allowing the emotion to come through versus allowing it to overtake you is a fine line. I just hope Tom allows the voices of his HOG family be louder than his demons. I like what you said there, that people physically hurt themselves because it distracts from the mental pain. Went through a severe phase of survivors guilt after I lost a brother in the army, and punching walls was a daily routine in the evenings when the grief got too strong. Tom is a legend, I love that he raps about stuff like that.
