Got to see Tom come out during a Springsteen concert last year. His 10 minute version of Ghost of Tom Joad was the highlight of the 5 hour concert. This man won't be fully appreciated for what he did for music until he's gone.

@@DaerianAntilles Because he is not even remotely top 20 guitarists. He is for sure top 20 musicians, not guitarists. The reason why you never heard about him is because how "best" guitarists are classified today. Best guitarists, unfortunately, are classified based on their core guitar skills, such is shredding, legato, picking (hybrid, sweep), etc. Tom doesn't shine in any of that particularly, whatsoever, he shines in his own style, rhythm, etc. No guitarist is gonna compare Tom to e.g. Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Malmsteen, etc. It's simply because they are not even remotely close.

Cornell was amazing no doubt, but everyone writes songs that fit their own voice. Range, key, and where the break is to flip from chest voice to head voice make a big difference. I'm sure Cornell would've struggled with some of Serj's stuff.
