He didn't ruin it - it's a cover - it's not meant to be the same. You maybe need to separate your objective opinion from critical appreciation. Apparently Billy loves it. Go figure...@free speech is no more fascism is alive and well 2

Brilliant live performance of a classic! I love Billy Joel's music and not usually a fan of those that do covers of his songs, but this performance by Tom is amazing!! Wish I could play the piano like that. I love Jeff Goldblum's reaction when the backing singers join in for the first time, his amazement at the sound they provided the song. Five stars *****.

I wonder if someone had said to Tom "you're the piano man" and he knew this song so decided to have a crack at playing and singing it with his band and the backing singers. Fine rendition of an old favourite I first heard as a kid in the 70s,probably along with She's Always a Woman to Me the first Billy Joel songs I heard, followed by Just the Way You Are (which Barry White then covered),Moving Out and then My Life.

Please release the performance of “half as good as you” he did that morning. Simply forced me to cry, it was futile to resist the tears. Best live version of that song by far with live choir and would absolutely love to hear it again.
