It’s good to see that I’m not alone... I miss him so much and on so many levels. His death was like losing one of the Beatles. I know I didn’t really know him, you know, but he was my highway companion for so many years...

So true, I’ve loved him since I was 15 when American Girl came out. I miss his cheesy grin and southern drawl.

This is pure Tommy Petty. Look how happy he is singing. Natural born entertainer. Real. Not one bit phony. Talented. He is the man. Louie Louie. Tommy Tommy. Yeah !

He looks so happy playing three chords and singing the ultimate garage band song. It makes me sad whatever demons he fought diminished, and ultimately extinguished that joy. I'm glad he had the joy, and shared it with us all. If your demons are extinguishing your joy, please find help. We need everybody singing "Louie Louie."

I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now and I noticed that mike is doing that solo without even looking at his guitar making it look effortless. That's crazy. Mike is definitely one of my favorite guitarists!
@2011littlejohn1 Жыл бұрын
Well I've been playing guitar for a little longer than that as I learned to play in Singapore bands in 1966 but I was still pleased to note that when I play a solo in this song - usually adlib it sounds very similar to this guy's approach. I suppose a song that evokes a similar response is You Really Got Me by The Kinks. :)

I’ve watched Geordie of killing joke play an entire concert without looking at his guitar. Gone now like Tom. But they have something in common, they were in the 3 best bands I could name with a 40+ year career. Most bands are never that good let alone for so long and consistently.

These guys put out a ton of original songs but they also were never shy about covering great songs by other artists. This is a perfect example 😁

I have heard MANY different versions of this song performed by Tom & the Heartbreakers, & I don't know if it's my FAVORITE, but it's close to it. This is one of the earlier versions I've found, & it sounds GR8!! Mikes' solo here is the BEST I've heard so far. Toms vocals are GR8. Some lyrics I haven't heard B4, but I LIKE that!! This is a fun one 4SURE!! Still miss him - & the band. It was a HUGE horrible tragic blow to the world of R'n'R when Tom passed. It's fantastic to find "new" old versions of any of his songs, esp after so long!! Their music will be influencing artists for a LONG time to come, & THAT makes me feel happy.

I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers live in Dortmund, West Germany in 1982. They were on the same program as REO Speedwagon, Chicago, Loverboy, A Flock Of Seagulls, and surprise guest Gary Moore. The Heartbreakers did an excellent version of “Breakdown.” You had to be there. I was.

In the 60s every band played Louie--often it would go on for 30-40 minutes, each band had lyrics they made up, some clean, some not so clean but everybody danced with a partner or without--it didn't matter. Sometimes you started without a girl but ended up with one--it was fun!

Grazie mille ciao.

They would always play this one at the old Mudcrutch farm gigs, Thoroughly electrifying the crowd ! Every so often they had two lead guitarists playing a back & forth / dual lead at the same time - ala Lynyrd Skynyrd ! MC had the ability to add improvised harmony on the fly . . .
