I met Tom Petty when I was a kid. My dad told me to go say hi to him when he recognized him at a gas station, and that he was the guy who sung this song. I told him I liked his singing. I still remember how big his smile was. I couldn't have been more than 7. Man just seemed like a normal, chill, good guy. RIP Tom.

I've met a few actors back in the 1970s mostly and one thing they like most is when you tell them how much you like their work. Tom's reaction to your son was quite normal. Tom knew that his fans were the reason why he made it big and likely never forgot that.

Weird. Why does anybody make comments like this? It used to be a thing to say, but honestly, although I am a "young" (lol) 36 years old, I have found that a ton of the folks my age and younger are down with more classic tunes than maybe any generation before them, and by them I refer to younger Millennials and Gen Z. Remember, my elder chum, there were probably old timers who asked why you were listening to the Beatles instead of listening to Benny Goodman or Scott Joplin. Btw, Joplin rules.

You do know this video is 100% about flat earth, right? Thanks for trying to tell me way back in 1989 Tom R.I.P. I used to like Tom Petty's music , now I love and admire him as a MAN who tired to do something. This song NOW has a special place for sure.

LYRICS: It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down I had the radio on, I was drivin' The trees went by, me and Del were singin' Little runaway, I was flyin' Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream Felt so good like anything was possible I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes The last three days the rain was unstoppable And it was always cold, no sunshine Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream I rolled on, the sky grew dark I put my pedal down to make some time And there's something good waitin' down this road And I'm picking up whatever is mine Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream

Lead player, Mike Campbell did the outro solo in one take. Most of the record was over-dubbed and when it came time to add a solo, he stepped in and hit this one in one take. Incredible.

Have you realised this is all about flat earth? I'm one of those indians on an island using bows and arrows against the media/gov't machine lying to you. I hadn't seen it since then either. Holy shit. Tom Petty tried to tell us. Or the video cartoonist did at least.

I'm a Florida boy, grew up listening Mr. Petty's music. Here to those of us fortunate enough to have grown up here he is an icon. My ex mother in law was attending UF as Tom was playing free concerts in open field areas. As a lead guitarist there's more to these songs than you think. All of them are great. I can't believe he's not with us. One of my favorites.

Oh, Rock & Roll, so raw, freewheeling and laid back. It can make swing a man in a wheelchair or a full stadium into an unstoppable contagious beat, in this case with likable Tom Petty and his band. You'll be missed Tom.

One of my favorite guitar solos of all time. It fits so perfectly with the song. They way the guitar talks with the drums at the beginning of it. And I believe it was a single take right? Just amazing.
