Terrific interview. Tom's a forgotten legend out here in Australia, just listened to Power in the Darkness again probably for the first time in 40 years, and was knocked out at how powerful it still sounded. Many thanks for this catch up.

Criminally underrated musician, deserved far more success than he got in the '70s and '80s.

i think that it was the guitarist who was the Musician.. Tom was the punchy songwriter..

I only recently discovered Tom Robinson through a snippet of, "War Baby" on the television program, " Ashes to Ashes". I second all the positive comments already said about Mr. Robinson. A fantastic songwriter and vocalist (great phrasing, almost jazz influenced) and has many fine musicians playing on his records. Anyone that mentions John Coltrane....well it says alot! I don't know how I missed him, but so glad I finally heard him. Great interview, thank you!

Tom's joie de vivre is the essence of it all...really easy-going in an uneasy time...just the perfect personality for the times

Great man. Saw TRB twice. In 78 and 79. Amazin band , Danny Kustow was such a force in that band , Tom is a fine bass player which doesnt get mentioned alot. Power in the darkness sounds as good now as it ever did , and is still relevant today.

I've been fortunate enough to spend some time with Tom several times, and he really is as nice & genuine a bloke as he comes across as here. He's not fake, he's not up his own arse, he's just a regular guy.

I really appreciate it when cultural phenomenon is giving more detail and context as it is here in this interview. Tom's experience of the counter culture of the 60's & 70's is cool to hear. I see he is overlooked even by people consumed by DIY/punk. When they find him they will be rewarded as i was when i found the used LP i stumbled upon. Rock and Revolution, Art and Revolution

TRB one of the most important bands of our time. Their songs still ring true today. Saw them in october 78 and march 79. Love them still.

😂 i was lucky enough to see Tom play in Chicago, great show! Before the music actually started, a guy came up and asked me if I was gonna sing along with Glad to Be Gay. 😅 "No," is what I told him. 😅 I was there because I loved the band and their songs. 😅

Tom Robinson spoke out in a friendly interview about his background, and explained how band came together and said how popular they were as the punk era was dying away.Virgin were encouraging and he said that in his 40’s he married and had children, one of whom became involved in IT.He was on radio for 12 years, and advised creative people to write crap songs and continue writing until they get items onto albums. He is 72 now ( born 1 June 1950),but has been a great musician ever since. I now recall that he was 28 years old when I saw him singing “Glad to be gay” and68 years old when singing outside Downing Street on KZbin. Anthony Green

I knew the name Cafe Society but I've never heard them until now. Someone's posted their entire album on YT kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6vZpXipbJKcj8U . It's interesting and it shouldn't be surprising as it was the mid '70s. As George Harrison had his Splinter so Ray & Dave Davies has their Cafe Society!

There were ZERO positive role models for gay youth in the late '70's (well close to zero). I first heard of TRB probably because of 'Glad to be Gay'...small things like that song might have saved a lot of lives.
