Gentle...hmmmm....hes a puss. Belt it out bro. Sing from your soul. let us know your hearts desires. Gabriel never did that, Phil did. Phil gave us blood sweat and tears.he gave us energy, passion, ambition. Gabriel's "flowery" vocals paled in comparison.

i agree, that nowaday music sadly lacks the genius of the original prog rock years. But there may be just THREE exceptions: listen to Nad Sylvan's "Green faerie" (band "Unifaun") and to Mylène Farmer's "Génération désenchantée" and "Libertine" !! Mylènes MASTERPIECES , i admit, are of a totally different style (but Nad's are NOT!) , still these three gems, and the video of "Génération désenchantée" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJzMqopmq9aUqpo) have earned, in my opinion, to be music/musicvideo for at least the next thousand years ... !!

Nathalie Meskens 2022 . Genesis : THE innovator group. Alternative rock! With one of their albums a today's rock star could make 20 , at least. Difficult to listen to , the first time : their music was so rich it took some time to get it through you. It took me all my adolescence to really appreciate every little bit of their music. Intelligent, varied, they could speak of everything on a progressive music. Now I consider Genesis one of the best and richest group of all times!

Just to point out how amazingly talented early Genesis was: Peter Gabriel, not just an amazing vocalist and lyricist. Also an amazing song writer with an illustrious solo career, and somehow throws in wonderful flute parts on top of all of it. Steve Hackett, was Eddie Van Halen before Eddie Van Halen with complex baroque type playing and tap style. Tony Banks, ridiculously proficient pianist, and amazing melody writer, somehow knows how to add amazing 12 string guitar parts to boot. Phil Collins, obviously known as a very talented singer and songwriter, yet somehow is less known for being one of the greatest drummers in the world. Mike Rutherford, fabulous bass player and doesn't stop there. Later becomes band's lead guitar player.

@@damianb2374 Maybe there is....but the attention span required to fully absorb none-cliched musical formats just seems to be lacking within the general masses. I also believe that people now experience MANY more demands and competition for the little-bit of focused attention they HAVE got to invest and this kind of dilutes the inclination. There's a kind of youthful sincerity within early Genesis output that was perhaps very much "of its time" and this has become much harder to invoke or replicate by successive generations.....in quite the same manner.

Wow, I had no idea Tony played guitar too. Well that makes sense. Every member of Genesis was a multi-instrumentalist, and that explains why their songs were integrated so solidly - each of them heard and understood the parts that everyone else was playing. I don’t know if this kind of band will ever happen again (5 equally talented multi-instrumentalist/composers), but I keep waiting. To the younger generation: kids, DO try this at home!

Undoubtedly the perfect frontman and one of Britains's musical geniuses, Peter Gabriel used to live just off Bath (don't know if he is still living there), where my grandmother lived. In the seventies when he was still playing with Genesis he was well known for being very religious and going to church every Sunday. You could approach him quite easily. 'The beautiful 'Solisbury Hill' from his first solo album was inspired by a little hill near Bath called 'Solisbury'
