The sights and sounds in this video bring back many memories--I was a USCG Avionics Technician/HU-16E flight crew member in the 60s-70s. Many hours in these things. I remember there was at least one of ours that had a small very nicely engraved placard at the bottom of the center instrument panel that said "Pride of the Grumman Iron Works". And indeed it was. What a marvelous machine. Just a super feeling of "solidity" in every aspect of operation. After searching the ocean all day, I have to say the noise would begin to get to you--much quieter and smoother in a C-130, but I always liked flying in the Goat. Very nicely done video! Thanks for the memories!

A tinyhome in an airplane. Awesome! I love all the Grumman boats, and this one is exceptional.

When I was a boy I would spend hours at Baltimore's Harbor Field with my best pal Tony. We would watch the activities at the field from the old Broening highway bridge or down by the hangers and the boarding area. A cast iron fence between us and the aircraft on the runway. Unimaginable in today's world! I can still hear the Albatrosses adjusting throttle and prop pitch as they climbed out in my memory. Watching the video brought back memories and filled in what happened during flight. You have no idea how I miss those days!!

Love the old PAA colors on the plane, and the pilot does work for every take off and landing, WOW.....great video of showing how active he is !!!! Got more Albatross videos ?????

That footage was shit hot! How cool's that pilot, "Tom" . You lucky bugger Maurice and fellow cast members. Stick & rudder flying. What a fantastic machine. Seeing that has made my day! Maurice, you should complete the credits. That would do Tom & his Grumman justice. Someone needs to update the Top 10 list of things to do in Danbury to include, visiting the Municiple Airport to view the Albatross. In my book it would be worth the 19 hours I would have to spend in a 777-300ER. Good work again Maurice

Excellent! Nothing else sounds quite like an Albatross on takeoff. In the early 1960s I would sit in my classroom at Port Royal School in Southhampton, Bermuda and watch and listen to the newly designated Coast Guard HU-16Es and Navy P-5Ms takeoff and land in Great Sound. My ears would always perk up at the sound of an Albatross and I would wonder if my dad was aboard.

The SA-16 did a great jo. Of converting 115/145 fuel to large sound. I had about 2000 hours in the SA-16 with three water rescues plus one pick up from an AAmerican oil tanker with a wounded onboard. I flew the first out of the US to Tripoli Lybia. I landed several times far out on the Sahara so that will stand up to anything. The flap setting is justo the right of the throttles. The Albatross is great and very strong like all open sea type birds, I flew the OA-10 (PBY) before

Is it just me, or does the landing gear on this thing appear flimsy as hell?? I suppose if it's primarily designed to land on water, and use the gear to taxi up the ramp then it's adequate. But putting this plane down hard on cement in a gusty crosswind? Yikes.

CT Connecticut? Are you sure? This plane is to American: Language, Borders, Culture, for the democrat socialist/Islamofascist that occupy the full GUN registration state of CT.Love the sound of the engines as the throttle is pushed forward on takeoff.
