@@PsychMdM You can usually tell exactly how you need to land way beforehand unless the wind shifts hard on you. The ideal direction to land is on either side of you, but if you're moving in a forward or backwards manner, you're trained to twist your hips as to land with your feet pointing to your left or right which will throw you to the ground in a roll-like fashion. That roll, or Parachute Landing Fall, is what helps absorb the shock so it doesn't go straight to your knees and blow them out or break your legs. It's not that hard to do unless your jumping in the pitch black and can't tell what vector you're falling in.

I was an airborne infantryman. The guy looked like he was falling too fast so some kind of chute malfunction. Should’ve pulled his reserve. Also he was reaching for the ground and didn’t even attempt to PLF. You keep your head and eyes on the horizon NO MATTER WHAT. If you look down at the oncoming ground your natural human reaction is to extend your legs to “reach” the ground. The military T-10 parachute only slows decent to about the point that impact is like jumping from a 13 foot platform. So you know, jump 13 feet with your legs locked out and land straight up and down 😬. KZbin PLF, but basically you keep your knees bent and try to roll left or right dependent on wind direction. Now it definitely doesn’t always work out textbook hitting all 5 points of contact but just having my knees bent gave me only a mild concussion when other guys were breaking bones. 🤷‍♂️ Feel bad for the fellow paratrooper but “feet and knees together, head and eyes on the horizon airborne”
