Just found out about the passing of Tom Smith. Truly such sad news and sincere condolences to his family. Whenever I think of the 1997 SA tour and the wonderful efforts from all the players it is Tom who sticks out the most. The tactical genius of the Lion's management to put a relatively small man against the giants of the Boks pack, his superior scrum craftwork, stamina and natural strength ( not pumped up muscle that slows you down and ultimately knackers you out), running lines, passing and his dogged but quiet determination led this Englishman to pretty much love that man. RIP Tom Smith. God rest your good Scottish soul.
