What make these things "childlike fantasies" to you? Just because boomers gave up on their dreams in their 20s doesn't mean Millenials like Tom have to. If anything, more people should be like Tom.
@DyslecticAttack
@DyslecticAttack Жыл бұрын
@@IzzyIkigai "childlike" isn't negative, it's to enhance the dreams/fantasies, which you can take away from the "innocent". It's a testamant to how curious they are in nature, and how honest they are. Most people reign in their fantasies to be more realistic and practical (which happens to every generation while growing up), but Tom fully checked in to his inner wonderous child for the purpose of these goals. The only person who decided to be negative about it was you, and then since clearly this was an excuse to vent frustrations, you had to make it about age groups and stereotypes. -sincerely from someone who is millennial/gen Z edge range.

@tylisirn

The tungsten filament is much hotter than lava and radiative flux is proportional to the fourth power of temperature. In fact, lava is relatively cool, that's why it's red and orange. 900 to 1400 kelvin, not even hot enough to melt iron. The filament in a typical incandescent bulb is about 2500 - 2700 K, two to three times as hot as lava. Up to 81 times as emissive per unit area (plus more of the photons will be visible light as opposed to infra red, so it'll look even more brighter still).

One of the reasons why you shouldn't poke or throw things into the lava is that you might break the relatively stiff surface which could allow the really hot inside to come bubbling out - which might get unsafe. Also, the framing of "volcanoes hate him" is a bit off, because those eruptions simply don't last as long. If you flip two coins and neither goes your way, that's annoying, but it's still not too uncommon.

The bit with the fellow talking about hair-like filaments of lave reminded me of some of the news from Hawaii. There are concerns about the current eruption at Mauna Loa because there is a lot of Pele's Hair (which is what they call that type of formation in Hawaii, after the volcano goddess Pele), and as it fragments into very small, very sharp little bits of glass, it's getting carried aloft by hot air currents. You *really* don't want to breathe bits of that in, apparently (glass + lungs = bad).

There's no supermarket chain called 'England', but there's one in the American South called 'Ingles', which is a sort-of homograph of the Spanish word, 'inglés', which means, well... 'English'. As a Spanish speaker, it's already intrinsically hilarious, but the idea that Tom's analogy could (sort of) come true if they open an Ingles in England makes it even better.
