Loved this show as a kid. I named my big dufus doggie "Manfred". It suited him to a T. The floppy ears, the lazy-esque attitude. I always referred to him as Manfred the Wonder Dog. He even liked the mailman. Everybody loved Manfred, he was a real treat.

I remember having to give up watching these cartoons weekday mornings when I had to go school for the first time.

I used to watch this after my older brothers and sisters left for school each day 😂 But alas ,there came a day when I had to go off to school and miss the Captain

The exact same situation for me I would watch captain kangaroo in the morning as my older brother and sister were off to school, but in the fall of 1960 it was off to kindergarten for me.

I always loved the minimalist approach to animation this show took. One of my favorite cartoons of all time.

Oh, what fun that was! I haven't seen this since I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. These Tom Terrific cartoons were just right for children. We incorporated Crabby's name to apply to anyone we knew who was having a less-than-ideal day. We'd say, "Don't be a Crabby Appleton". Great memories. Thanks for allowing us to see Tom and Crabby again.

I was 6 when it first aired (1957). I remember enjoying it. Being my first name is Tom, probably helped endear it to me.

10:24: Bop! Honk! Bop! Honk! Bop! "My machine doesn't like me anymore!" "It doesn't like me!" Funny for a primitive animation show from 1956 by Gene Deitch. Lionel Wilson had a real inventive voice.

Right on, Cole... I'd forgotten those...did you guys ever have "Cap Bombs"? A cap from a cap pistol roll was torn off and inserted into metal Rocket with plunger on front end to explode cap when it hit?

That was Winky Dink that has the 'magic screen'. I remember my sister Janie sent away for it. I don't remember what it cost but I remember putting it on the TV screen and drawing what Winky told us he needed to defeat the bad guy.

Cartoons for four year olds . . . back in the Stoned Age. Paul Terry also did Heckle and Jeckle and Mighty Mouse, among other stalwarts of the times. He had quite the knack for appealing to a nascent demographic.

I am very surprised to discover that an accordion was used in this cartoon
@ramblerclassic4006 жыл бұрын
Looks like a low budget cartoon. The accordion was an inexpensive way of creating background music. The sound made when Tom changes into something sounds like it was made on a steel drum.
@stephenholloway68935 жыл бұрын
No surprise since the studio, Terrytoons always seemed to have the tightest budget among the studios that released theatrical animated shorts. Especially when CBS took over ownership.

Tom Seaver was nicknamed Tom Terrific after this cartoon. Now Cheating Shady Brady wants to copyright "Tom Terrific" as his moniker for merchandising reasons despite the fact that Seaver will always be rightfully known by that name. But legally, can that asshole Brady copyright this name when it's already a copyrighted cartoon??
