This might be when David made his mind up that the Heads would never get back together

I was there. Bushy hair, about 3 people deep, center stage. At the Ritz. Last time Talking Heads ever played together. Impromptu gig at Tom Tom Club show.

@@russellmaddox2437 doesn't count, really. Invite only private show. Although, yes, this wasn't the last time they played together, just the last Talking Heads show, technically.

I thought I had taken a mad cocktail of drugs while listening to this - the quality is utter crap but the energy came through loud and clear and I just loved it.

Wow at David Byrne relegated to background vocals, coming up with harmonies on the spot

i think folks who dislike this performance of psycho killer came here for talking heads instead of tom tom club, i love both bands and both bands versions of this

Yea I dunno. It seems like a bit of a hot mess. Those 2 others chicks prolly high on coke banging cowbell are kinda annoying. Byrne's like why the f am I even here? Haa

While I can understand some of the negative vibe towards this particular performance, Tom Tom Club was also about being dancey and the club vibe. Talking Heads had a more controlled feel to it, even when it got as amped up as Stop Making Sense. So while this doesn't exactly sound like the TH reunion peeps might have liked, credit where it's due to David and Jerry for just rocking out as guest players and not getting hung up on it. (Plus, David seemed pretty into it doing Under The Boardwalk.)

A few months before this show, on May 29, 1989, I saw Tom Tom Club at The World in the East Village. "DB" was in the audience, but he declined Tina's invitation to join the band for the encore, "Psycho Killer." That was disappointing, but the larger point is that Tom Tom Club had already worked up its own version of the song, and they used that arrangement here. I'd prefer a Talking Heads version, but this was a Tom Tom Club show, with Byrne, Harrison and Scales in "special guest" spots.

@@NOWtheband Idk about Sax and Violins, David and Jerry are the only members that appear in the video and the drum and bass sound sampled to the point where I'm skeptical Tina and Chris participated. I though Gangster of Love was just a previously unreleased demo that got mastered or something?

@@chadbot0129 Sax And Violins = Music played by whole band from Naked sessions in '87. Words done later by Byrne. Gangster Of Love = Basic music sampled from Remain In Light '80 & Naked '87 sessions. Music & singing finished August '91 by whole band. (information from Sand In The Vaseline sleevenotes) :-)
