How can it be 6 years since someone last commented on this video? Tom Waits is one of those performers who elevated themselves into a different category. When the Pogues were on tour in America, they listened to 'Rain Dogs' on repeat. That is the sort of artist he is. Commercial? Fuck no. An exceptional talent? Fuck yes.

this was a rare time to see Tom do his thing, live. the studio recorded version on CD is more refined, & tweaked. This is like theater. A performance piece. Really fantastic. Striped to the bone, purer,gutsy, raw.

I've seen him in Paris in 1987 (or 86), and made lot of photos, it was an amazing incredible wonderfull show... I remember when he open an umbrella and lot of silver paper fall around all stage... like rain, "rain's dog" of course!. Great great man!

This is from the live album Big Time. When I was I high school I rented the vhs tape from I Luv Video. There was only 3 copies in the entire city. Probably rented it 50 times, so eventually they just let me keep it.

Rain Dogs is the greatest beginning to end musical experience in the history of music! I swear it is! I bought this record when it first came out without knowing who Tom Waits was and I have listened to it a minimum of a 1,000 times. I still don't know all the lyrics because he swallows a lot of his words, and the print is so tiny in the cd insert that you need a magnifying glass to read it.I never tire of this record! It's like he stole the soundtrack of my thoughts when I was napping.

"Oh How We Danced" is the opener of the Anniversary Waltz which they used to play at Jewish weddings before they played hip-hop. It's a gorgeous waltz and Tom makes good use of the quote here.

Top of the Tops! I first heard Tom Waits at a dinner party Saturday night. I loved him and where have I been? lol I admire talent in all aspects such as Cirque du Soleil,too. Toms singing and music reminds me of Cirque, which is a great thing!!! I put both in the ten best ever!!!

His music is influenced by blues, jazz, even a little vaudeville and rock; he played in an R&B band in his early years, and he's won a few awards for Best Folk Album. Like others have said, it's very difficult to categorize him. He pretty much defines his own genre of music, and has remained true to it for years.

It's from the Big Time movie, which I guess is out of print. So either have to track down a VHS copy or find a torrent somewhere. A lot of it is on YT though in parts.
