Watson won 8 majors. He ranks in the top 10 players ever. He won a lot, with a great pivot, which helped maintain a still head, and consistent spine angle. The proper pivot is the key to great golf.

100% correct. The only thought you should have in the golf swing is 'stay in posture'

This works ! It's all about keeping your spine angle through the shot!

I love Tom Watson, and he does a good imitation of 'Doc' from Back to the Future..... but man, if he could only play golf like he did before he discovered 'The Secret'....he'd have won another 8 majors. And I guess he got tired of hitting the ball fat and to the right about once a year during his prime....jeez! The dude has been a ball striking machine for eternity really. What a freakin' standard.

This is it! Tom Watson is so goddamn right. Start with your legs and then through with your shoulders.

It’s the absolute truth. It’s the very same with me but he’s a master. Spent 40 years trying to swing inside out which produces shanks, dull high rights and no consistency in ball striking. Like him got tired of it and just by chance due to hating my play I stumbled onto “it”. So funny to to hear him tell my golf story. I have never hit the ball with so much power as I have in the last two months. Ok, I’m rambling. Good luck.

One of the best tips on yt from one of the classiest pro golfers ever. Do what he demonstrated and keep the arms in the same relative position to the torso (don't worry about how far back you can go; just swing to where it's comfortable) and you'll hit long and straight.

Perhaps what some commenters (who would boo Santa Claus) might be missing his Tom Watson's genius per sharing his secret. He imparts one and only one thought to make your swing more grooved and repeatable. What flippin' difference does in make what year he was at Hilton Head? Too bad Watson's class act can't rub off on some of us.

He misspeaks here it was 94 but who cares. The fact is Ledbetter was telling him this for years and he didn’t get it. His swing was so much better after 94 and if he could have putted at all he would have double digits majors. The swings that cost him majors were all block pushes. 84 at St Andrews against the wall on the road hole. 91 Masters block dunk in water on 12 and then the dreaded block on 18 to nullify to the two masterful eagles on 13 and 15. He dominated with his putter and that betrayed him. Oh the irony. Yes Tom is my all time favorite and I felt devastated when his last putt on 18 in 2009 was so poorly struck. It was surreal the whole week. When he shot 43 to lose the us senior open to Allen Doyle he raked the bunker on 18. They asked why on earth would you concern yourself with that. There was no one behind you. Cause it was the right thing to do. That’s Tom in a nutshell.

I could careless what year it was ! The man had the best swing in golf for many years ! His perfect lower body action is what allowed him to maintain that spine angle and shoulder relationship. Few possess the rhythm and timing . I would die for that swing and at times could pull it off but poor foot work etc .just didn't allow for repeatability . Not the swing's fault !

He has a funny way of explaining his cure for over extension, but yeah basically hold your posture as you swing through the shot, butt back chest down as you turn through.

I fully agree with this motion. My only question is so why some people say you have to " tilt " left shoulder in backswing ? When I do this motion what Mr Watson shows My left shoulder goes automatically down anyway, why do I need to tilt ? Thank you

I love this story but in another video on You Tube it was said to be in 1994, not 1992, so I'm wondering which year is correct?

He's not talking about it, but if you do this and keep your club face facing 45-degrees towards the ground on the takeaway, you'll have a great swing.

Lol there is not secrets to golf. I actually hate it when people use the word secret because it keeps influencing the newer players that there's a "shortcut" to be good at this game. I find that's what leads players down the bumpy road to 1000 swing changes. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of valuable information out there that can help you but at the end of the day you being "good" at golf comes down to how much you practice these techniques and how dedicated you are to being better. On average professionals have practiced anywhere between 5000-10000 hours before they turned pro. That's equivalent to 200-400 days of just in time practice. Which in smaller terms in spending a minimum of 2-3 hours everyday with 0 breaks for 10 years. So once you add in the fact that you're human and you have other things you have to do as well that number keeps rising. This is reality people! Nothing great ever came from watching a 1 hour dvd..
