Never understood it myself either Stephen. True motoring and motorsport enthusiasts enjoy and appreciate cars from all walks of life, all eras and all countries. I have a Rover/MG with a Mustang engine and it's a complete hoot. It just would not be the same without the brutish charm of it's American power plant. It sounds lovely. The best of two worlds. :D

They do. I was at the Spa Classic back in May and got to see assorted Group C Le Mans cars etc. They also do a Classic at Le Mans which is made up of 6 different classes. It's really great to be sat out at 4am watching GT40s hammering through Tetre Rouge.

I wholeheartedly agree. I noticed that every single car there built before the 1990s sounded better than today's cars. The four cylinders, the sixes, the eights, everything. Every time I watch one of these videos, I lament that I wasn't alive during auto racing's glory days.

richard carr I prefer the sound coming from the actual engine than what comes out the end of the long pipe, in what often amounts to a trumpeting noise. It's a shame to have the purring, whining and throbbing of engineering drowned out by loud exhaust noise. A clever brass brand could replicate a lot of that exhaust sound.

LSX_ moe yes, it was originally built by jaguar as a test bed for the engine for the XJ220, later bought by don law racing who are the go to people for maintaining xj220 and racing jags.

Great vid. You got footage of some awesome cars here! Been comparing this with the Gran Turismo 6 trailer showing their Goodwood Hillclimb - pretty sure its the first time the Hillclimb has been in a game, they have a different "monument" thingy at the start, with 2 Lotus F1 cars, whereas its now got the 3 cars at the top. I'm wondering how long ago they modelled the Hillclimb. I can't wait to drive 1200 cars up the hillclimb when GT6 comes out though :) Anyway, enough rambling, great vid :)

Always find the "American cars suck" comments funny. Are they as refined as European cars? No. But even a kid working part time in North Anerica can afford a 400 plus horsepower machine he can drive to school and his job on weekdays and his track of choice on weekends. I've ones 'em all and nothing beats the smiles per dollar of a Mustang, Camaro or Corvette. After may misguided years on Bimmers and the like I'm happy to be driving a domestic again.
