As devastating as the Eduardo injury was to us, we seriously missed Rosicky just as much

He was out for almost two years between 2007 and 2009, with many injuries, but he was very important alongside Hleb and Cesc

@@souster98Can you do a Fabregas 07/08 compilation next? He was immense that season with 7 goals & 17 assists in 32 appearances in the Prem (13 goals & 20 assists in all comps). It should have been 19 PL assists as well imo as he wasn't credited with an assist for Adebayors 2nd goal v Man City on matchday 25 or for Gallass' goal on matchday 32 v Bolton by whatever qualifying criteria that the Premier League use for assists. He was only 20 years old during the entirety of that season. Absolutely frightening. An 09/10 season compilation of his as well would be much appreciated whenever you get round to it. Probably the most impressive season of his career individually before he got injured v Barcelona in March which ruled him out for the rest of the season. He scored a penalty in that match whilst carrying a hairline fracture in his leg. Still recovered in time to set up the World Cup winning goal that summer as well.

Loved the side of 07/08. That was by far my favourite time being an Arsenal supporter in terms of the electric style of football that we used to play. The football that season going forward with the likes of Fabregas, Rosicky, Hleb, Diaby, Walcott, Eduardo, Van Persie & Adebayor was absolutely scintillating. The precision of those intricate & incisive one touch/two touch sharp & snappy interchanges, movement off the ball, and build up play in the final third at times was utterly breathtaking. Just a shame we couldn't get over the line and reward all that exceptional free-flowing attacking football with a Prem title at the end of it: ● Going into that Birmingham game, which Eduardo broke his leg in, we had the opportunity to go 8 points clear as it was an early Saturday K:O on the 27th G/W before everyone else played. ● Including the Birmingham draw, we drew 5, lost 2, and won just 1 of our 8 league games in that period, which ultimately cost us the title. ● Finished on 83 points (4 points off Man Utd). The 2 we lost were 6 pointers against Man United and Chelsea, respectively, as well to make it even more painful. Even if we'd just managed to beat United during that horrific run of results it would have hypothetically meant that we would have won the league in hindsight if the 3 points went the other way although obviously I appreciate the entire dynamic of the run in would have been altered by those chain of events. Fine margins. We completely imploded from gameweek 27-34. What could have been 😔.

@@oisin5684 bro so true Eduardo getting injured totally fucked up the the team moral, this was a special team imo they could've won the premier league and the Champions League double we had the talent and manager to do so

@@johnrockyryan Not having that as an excuse at all, though. These were top level Pros. As horrific, an injury as it was injuries are part of the game, and that's what you have a squad for. We threw it away from GW 27-34 (W1 D5 L2), starting with that Birmingham draw. I would be utterly disgusted as an Arsenal supporter to hear any of our former players during that season come out and blame that for why they didn't with the Prem that year. Talk about weak mindedness and lacking character and resilience 😤.

Players with magic like him dont seem to be in the game anymore. Everything is now far too focused on stats rather than skill. Players are judged on their efficiency rather than their pure footballing ability. If players like Caicedo are worth 100 mil because of their ball recovery stats, imagine what Rosicky would be worth today.

Completely agree. Hleb is another player that springs to mind when I think of players who don't have mind-blowing stats in the way of goals, assists etc. but when you watch them in general play & see how they break lines of opposition defences by splitting them open by playing through balls through the eye of a needle & dribbling past players like they're not even there with body feints & snappy footwork, they were at the heart of every attack more often than not. Those are the type of "pre-assist" players that play the all important defence splitting pass in an attack but don't get credited with assists because the player who they play in behind opposition defences will square it to a CF for a tap in etc. Love those off the cuff street footballer types that just play with freedom & not like some of these Academy programmed robots who just receive the ball and play a simple sideways pass to a teammate. Players like Zidane never registered more than 12 or 13 goals or assists a season in their leagues when they played but when you watched them week in week out & saw their technical quality in general play they were head & shoulders above players like Bellingham, who a bunch of 15 year olds will probably argue is better than Zidane ever was coz he has scored more league goals this season than Zidane ever did. It's like that famous Mark Twain quote "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics” .

Apologies, I only just noticed I hadn't replied but was brought back because of the most recent comment. Funnily enough, I feel like Odegaard, who people so often compare to Ozil, better resembles both Hleb and Rosicky; it's that combination of deadly intensity and great technique. I agree that the football discussion is dominated by stats, but I don't think that means that any of the quality of players such as these have been lost. Bernardo Silva is still chugging along at City, he's another such player who brings the same sort of excitement, Napoli has Kvaratshkelia. I don't watch as much football outside of Arsenal these days but I'm sure there are more elsewhere. If the quality is there the players will continue to come through. The stats only paint a part of the picture.
