My dad used to do this on accident to clean off driveway sealer from his hands. We are Romani Gypsies and he did handyman work to make ends meet. He was tough as hell and could punch a hole in a brick wall. Pretty sure all the chemicals with no personal protective equipment gave him cancer though. I'm American and we didnt live live English and Irish travellers. We did, however, do a lot of fighting in general though although most of it was within the family, sadly.
